Design Process - I think less meetings would have been enough. Our project was small.

I absolutely loved working with Kelsey on the design side. I cannot say enough good things about him. All the Foremost people I worked with (Jon, Tony, Lee, Mike, Lois) are not only great at what they do, but also very pleasant to be around (even when it is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week of people in your house while you are there too, with the dog and my son). The work is top notch, and the personalities and getting to know everyone was a bonus. There were two projects, one right after the other: the big exterior project, which also included a new laundry/bath, and then the smaller kitchen project

Designer - Yes, our designers understood because they took the time to build a relationship with us as they developed our design. They encouraged us to describe our wants and priorities and to express them. We never felt pushed into accepting any part of the design--it felt entirely collaborative. Our designers regularly checked in with us about how we felt about the design. They also consistently reviewed what we had decided.

We really liked all the staff we worked with. Everyone was friendly, professional, and well-organized. The end-product is fantastic.

Recognized Excellence

Recognized Excellence - Doug Foy was really great during the entire project. He is friendly and professional and does great work. The design process with Matt was great. Matt is extremely detail-oriented and a pleasure to work with. I really appreciated the weekly meeting with Lee. He is extremely knowledgeable and seems like he is the glue holding it all together. We also really appreciated Lois’ expertise when it comes to design-she had some great input to the project!

Additional Comments - This was our first experience working with a builder doing renovations and we were a bit nervous going in blind with a company we had never heard of. Foremost was awesome and exceeded all our expectations! We are really looking forward to the next project we have lined up with them later this year. We will strongly recommend them.

The people at Foremost are a joy to work with starting with our first interaction through the design and then build process. The attention to detail in every aspect of the renovation is impressive. We did the renovation from a distance and their communication made it feel as if we were there the entire time. We are already planning our next project and intend to hire them again.

Budget - The quality of the work is unsurpassed and worth every penny. The only deviations from budget were due to the unforeseen hidden structural issues. If you renovate a 200 year-old house you know there are going to be a few hidden problems. The changes were all within reason.

We are so lucky that we worked with Foremost Builders for our building project. Foremost Builders was an excellent partner all through the design and construction process. It was clear that every employee not only had significant construction experience and an admirable work ethic, but also were people of the highest integrity. Each person was kind, compassionate, and patient with us. We do not believe that we would have had a better experience with another building firm.

For instance, Foremost Builders worked with us to minimize the time our family needed to move out of the house during construction. From day one, they prioritized our ability to live in our space through construction, even moving our dishwasher into our temporary basement kitchen. This vastly reduced the stress associated with small schedule changes. The job site was kept incredibly clean which further made living in a construction zone doable for our family of four.

Complex building projects often have unavoidable surprises, but we were fortunate to have an experienced and knowledgeable partner in Foremost Builders. As in any partnership, communication skills played a key role in navigating the unexpected. Foremost Builders was incredibly responsive and met challenges head on. Through out the process, they were trustworthy and collaborative.

From an outside perspective, Foremost Builders has built a company culture where everyone is treated with respect. With this value at its foundation, Foremost is then able to deliver an exceptional experience where a culture of safety, careful communication, and continuous improvement is baked into every interaction whether with a client, a subcontractor, or a building inspector. Vendors through out our community shared with us their positive experience working with Foremost and now we’ve lived through it ourselves.

Recognized Excellence - We would like to recognize Doug Foy at Foremost Builders for his incredible work ethic. Doug was always doing the right work, the right way, at the right time,(whenever we knew enough to judge it at all.) His calm but focused demeanor was an example to all. He was kind and infinitely patient, never making us feel like our questions were pulling him away from something he’d rather be doing. In addition, Doug was incredibly responsive and he absolutely went the extra mile to make sure everything was up to snuff. We would like to recognize Lee Beaton at Foremost Builders for his readiness to come alongside us and solve any problem. We fully believe that Lee gave us advice about our house as if it was his own home. He was equal parts honest and encouraging. We are so glad he shepherded us through the construction process. He was so kind as we experienced the normal jitters that he has probably seen so many customers go through as their home gets taken apart and put back into something better than before. We would like to recognize Matt Riemer at Foremost Builders for seeing a floor plan that solved our problems more simply than the one we initially proposed. Our house has a cohesion and a harmony that we could not have imagined without him. We can see that he had our back through it all and we are so glad that he sent us into the construction phase with such a solid plan. Without Matt’s diligence, imagination, and tirelessness through all of the endless tradeoffs, we’d probably never have gotten out of the drafting stage. And now we have an actual house. Thank you!!

Improvement Suggestion

Improvement Suggestion - My 4s on some of the survey areas was because I had to insist in several areas that things be made right that clearly were not right and that the Foremost team certainly wouldn't have accepted in their own homes. Wasn't the case on the first project. The shower issue was the most obvious. Didn't even seem to have been tested. Took about 3 go arounds - each time with the team saying "we did what we could do", when it clearly wasn't so and still wasn't right. Was a point of frustration on project management. Lee ultimately "did it himself". Wasn't a difficult fix, but he actually dug in, found the issue and resolved it

From the start of design to the very last day of construction we felt like we were in safe hands. The entire Foremost team was exceptional and we will be coming back to them far into the future for our remodeling needs. A bath remodel was the second project that Foremost has undertaken with me. As before, from design to construction to punch list, all aspects were completed in a professional and collaborative fashion. Two major unanticipated problems during construction were quickly resolved to my complete satisfaction and at reasonable cost. Kelsey, once again, started by eliciting a thorough understanding of what I wanted in the finished renovation and assisted me in determining how to achieve it while saving me from myself occasionally and suggesting features/equipment that I was not aware of. Jon executed beautifully, and also consulted me on construction details that I might want to consider. Trade partners were professional and skilled. The small number of punch list items was corrected expeditiously and to my complete satisfaction.
