Over 45 years ago, after serving his country as a Marine and veteran of the Korean War, Allyn Harth chose to make homebuilding his life's work. So when he founded Harth Builders in 1996, he began with a long-held belief taught to him by his years of experience – that it takes not only the highest levels of experience, quality, workmanship, service and design to make a home special, but also a personal touch.
Our company culture is focused on three C's of remodeling (at least phonetically anyway): Communication, Quality and Cleanliness. Harth Builders is a nationally recognized, award winning, residential design-build remodeling firm serving Eastern Montgomery and Central Bucks counties in the Philadelphia suburbs. With a creative design team that includes architects, engineers, interior designers and contractors, we help our clients bring concept to reality while being mindful of their construction budget.
Scope of Work
In the past, we have built custom homes, helped clients reclaim their homes after fire and water damage and done a variety of kitchens, additions, bathrooms, basements, attic renovations and whole house remodels. However, we really enjoy the more challenging remodeling projects such as whole house lifts, 2nd and 3rd story additions, old farmhouse conversions, realigning stair cases to provide more space inside the home, etc.
Typical Workload
We generally run three addition-based projects simultaneously (i.e. kitchen addition, 2nd story guest bedroom suite, etc.) while developing three to four designs into future projects.
Team Makeup
Our design team consists of an Architect, and Interior Designer and Allyn and Greg, both engineers. We have found that this broad spectrum approach helps solve most of our clients remodeling problems by bringing 3 disciplines to the table up front.
On the production side, our Production Coordinator is responsible for weekly communication to our clients and oversees a team of three Lead Carpenters, along with a Carpenter and Carpenter's Assistant.

Our clients are generally dual income, professionals who are looking for a streamlined approach to solving their remodeling problems.
Approach to Working With Clients
Ask a lot of questions... and listen a lot. Then ask a lot more questions and listen further. We try to determine the root problem that is driving the client to remodel and ensure that the finished product meets their expectations.
We bring real value to our clients when there are three trades or more and the client really appreciates our proactive communication during their remodeling project.
Motivating Employees
By acknowledging our employees' successes and being supportive after they make mistakes. We have built a nurturing environment for our staff and invest in them as if they were to become future business owners themselves. This created an owner's mentality from our Production Coordinator down to the Carpenter's assistant and provides our clients with very conscientious staff working on their projects.

We get a fair amount of clients who are relocating to the Philadelphia area and find us online.
What's next for your company
We are continually focused on providing a better remodeling experience to our clients by utilizing current technologies in our processes. We are currently evaluating web-based coordination software, such as Co-Construct, to keep our clients informed of where they are in the process at all times.
Harth Builders was refreshing to work with because of past bad experiences with other remodelers. They provided a quality service at the prices we had agreed upon and we are very happy with the end result. It was a very pleasant and positive company to deal with.

Workng through the design options. they gave us a number of options and it was good to see the various ideas. it kept me from thinking, "i wonder if this would have worked."
Thinking through the basement light fixture above the mirror more. Due to ceiling height, we had to install the lights facing down. a bar light might have been better.

They always do such a great job and they always do exactly what I ask them to do! The installers are always extremely clean and they never let their work get out of hand.
There were a few set backs in the timeline and scheduling aspect of my project. They can improve by estimating the time necessary to complete the work a little better as well as the time needed to work on other projects so no work is overlapped due to delays.
Harth Builders is a Class A organization that works to please it's customers. They went out of their way to repair a product that had become defective over time. They are just the best in home remodeling!

The Harth team's experience enabled them to present a number of innovative options for our new kitchen. The concept we selected, and Harth built, is much different than the original. They created a much brighter and open look with more effective use of space. It's very functional, but it's also a great space to hang out in.
The design/selection process showed a number of options. Presenting drawings and renderings of several concepts was helpful. Ellen was tireless in leading us through selections-- the many field trips to the carpentry shop, stone yard, showrooms and hours looking at photos & samples was hard work but thoroughly rewarding. The D/B process took care of coordination.
More direct scrutiny of subs. No one expects perfection, but very high quality is expected with a design-build process. Ideally, the client should not discover problems; the PM should see problems during or shortly after the task. For perspective, there were very few problems for a job of this type.
From the very beginning, working with Harth Builders was a totally positive experience. After my first meeting with Greg Harth, I had the confidence that his team could take care of my master bathroom remodeling needs. His team of designers, carpenters, electricans and plumbers were all well-experienced, courteous, intelligent and an overall pleasure to have in my home. The Harth team kept me fully informed every step of the way and continually asked me if there was anything else they could do to help. In the span of just three weeks, Harth efficiently and beatifully transformed my outdated, leaking bathroom into a classically elegant relaxing bathroom. Harth Builders also built me a foundation of trust and exceptional craftsmanship, on which I will turn for other home improvement projects, again and again. The only negative issues we had involved the work done by a few subcontractors. We would suggest some better oversight of subcontractors' work.

The direct employees of Harth Builders were absolutely professional. However, we did have some workmanship concerns with a few of the subcontractors' employees.
Harth Builders transformed an ugly and dysfunctional laundry room into a very efficient work space that also looks terrific with a lot of style! They did it in a very short span to limit the time we were without a working washer and dryer. They did it all...from a creative design done with the highest degree of craftmanship and finished with attention to even the tiniest details. For us, it is a "slam dunk" of satisfaction and we are most appreciative!
The creative solution to the need to add an area for folding was great as was its implementation. Also, love having a shelf at eye level with just enough height to be very useful. Thanks, Tim! Homebuilders, remodelers, real estate developers and home services companies pay GuildQuality for customer surveying and performance reporting. We refer to these companies as GuildQuality Members, Guildmembers, or members.
Our service helps Guildmembers monitor customer satisfaction and -- if they choose to publish survey feedback on our public website at guildquality.com -- articulate the quality of their service for prospective customers.
All of the Guildmember information we publish at guildquality.com has been provided to us either by the member (such as pictures of work and biographical information) or by their customers via one of our surveys (customer comments, performance summaries, and reviews).
All of the customer feedback that we publish is derived from the customers we survey. Our Guildmembers provide us with their customers' contact information, we conduct the surveys, they receive the feedback, and -- if they have chosen to make their feedback public -- the member's performance report is automatically updated to reflect the response. Members may choose to publish a summary of either all of their feedback or their most recent twelve months of feedback.
In addition to average performance ratings and survey statistics, GuildQuality also publishes two types of customer commentary: Comments and Reviews.
A comment has been provided by a survey respondent in response to any one of the survey questions we ask, and a member may or may not choose to publish it. Often customers provide unsolicited testimonials or compliments, and members can choose to share these comments in their published performance report.
Many Guildmembers choose to participate in our formal review process. These members have added an additional question on their survey: "If you'd like to provide a public review of your experience working with the Guildmember, please share it here." In contrast to comments, which a member selects to have published, we publish all reviews, provided they are at least 30 words long. With each review, we include a one to five star rating provided by the survey respondent.
