Tri City remodeling replaced the shingles, roof sheathing, reinforced the sagging roof rafters and hopefully improved the attic ventilation. The work was disappointing. 1. Carpenters worked in the attic to eliminate the sagging in the roof and reinforce the roof bracing. A strongback was attached to the chimney to improve the support the roof. The chimney cleaning company that came after this work was completed said the stongback installation violates code and makes it unsafe to use any of the fireplaces in the house. There needs to be a 2" air gap around the chimney.2. The roofers replaced all the roof sheathing. There are many places where the sheathing nails missed the rafters leaving long, exposed nails protruding into the attic. This creates a safety hazard for future interior attic work and makes me wonder how well the sheathing is nailed down.3. The roofers installed ice dam over the entire roof. The ice dam material was not always laid flat and there are places where there are ridges in the shingles and gaps between the bottom edges of some shingles and the row of shingles below. It looks worse than my 25 year old prior roof. I mentioned my concern about this to Phil and Steven on the first day of the shingle installation but the problem was on-going. Since all the sheathing was replaced, this problem was entirely due to the roofing crew. In general, my impression is that the roofing crew was rushed and sloppy in their workmanship. 4. The insulation in the attic was disturbed during the carpentry and roofing work. It is no longer of uniform thickness. There is also a fair amount of roofing debris in the attic.

I am very happy with my new roof. They did an excellent job addressing my concerns and completing the job in a timely manner.
