Everything went well until we got to the final stages. I have a damaged range hood that hasn't been dealt with. I have paint on the cabinets that have not been dealt with. There has been a painter working on my home for a month. There were replacement doors brought in today that have holes in them. The replacement doors are worse than the original doors. I have a $5,000 hood with paint on it. It still hasn't been dealt with. The job may not be completed until 2-3 months. They suck right now.
My experience with Tilson is still on going
The family style environment of Tilson has been a joy. Not having the pressure of being sold to and rushed has been great for our family. The inclusive building aspects such as spray foam insulation, HVAC dehumidifier, and more have provided us great value.
We are sorry you had to ask us twice for our comments... needed to put everything in perspective.
To look at our house, it is very pretty. To really see the house, well there are cosmetic concerns that make us wonder about the care given to the hard systems and infrastructure.
There were parts of the process that went well. Much of our experience was 'less than expected' given the sell speak. Without our questions and persistence in calling things to their attention - whether during contract/design phase or construction phase or closing phase - we may have had even less than what we ended up with.
Contract Phase: There were 11 change orders... most of which were due to salesperson's inattention/errors. We made upgrades to our plan - drop zone, mirroring design. We believe that the fact that our salesperson was 'on the way out' (of which we were unaware, and not clear whether by their choice or by management choice), the amount of attention to the detail we needed was absent. The office lady always answered the phone and did her best to help when she could. The design consultation ladies did a great job guiding/supporting our choices. Our final Options Addendum was signed in Feb 2023.
Construction: Our stakeout person was super (Nov 2023). Then we didn't see/hear much from anyone between stakeout and first meeting with contractor (Jun 2023) - who was switched just before the meeting. Foundation went in 29 Jun and build completed Feb 2024. Our contractor was on-site, infrequently, pretty sure there were many other projects going on ... vacations/illness, etc. We lived on property during the process and were often asked to confirm different steps had occurred. When in-process items were brought to the contractor's attention, we were told that it is all part of the process. The contractor invited us to bring things up as we went; we presumed that would matter and get the attention it may deserve. No. Paint, tile, caulk... noticeable to anyone looking ...
Closing: We closed after several (~3) informal punch-list meetings with the contractor. Closed on 23 Feb; not without the closing lady saying she didn't realize we had closed when the final 10% was wired. Trust everyone was doing their best ... just not what was advertised.
They did a great job!
Lovely
I often recommend Tilson.
