Mark Hayner and Installations Unlimited are the worst contractor ever. Buyer beware and do your homework. I have posted images of his shoddy work on Facebook and Google, but cannot attach any here.
My husband and I hired him in Sept. 2021 for 3 porches.
He said he was insured, but would NOT provide us the information.
NEITHER Installations Unlimited NOR Mark Hayner are registered as a company in the state of NC.
He did not show up when he said he would. Continuous flow of delays - Wife had surgery, daughter was going to have a baby, he got COVID, he had to do this, he had to do that. And those were the excuses when he did bother to respond to email, text, and/or phone messages. Excuse after excuse after excuse for his delays.
He said the first porch would take two weeks after we approved the cost and paid 50%. The first two porches were SUPPOSED to be done by Halloween. Then they were SUPPOSED to be finished for Thanksgiving, as we were expecting company. Then he promised to have them completed by Christmas, which they were certainly NOT.
They were 'finished' - if you can call it that - in February, 2022. After he made halfway corrections to the first porch, he refused to fix the second porch.
He is the crew. Period. He started the first porch with a a couple of helpers who seemed inexperienced and did several things which Mark Hayner had to correct himself.
The second porch is a joke! Our agreement was to replace exactly as it was because our property is listed on the National Historic Register. All of his measurements and cuts are off. Go to the Google review and check out the photos. He cut corners. He did NOT use glue. He used MDF as EXTERIOR trim (but only on the top). I found out because we picked up pieces from his construction debris.
He left cigarette butts and construction debris - including screws, blades, and shavings, and tools all over the place. Here are some of the other inexcusable problems:
- the porch NOT being level
- his use of MDF! on exterior trim
- horrendous miter cuts
- materials not primed
- he was supposed to do a near exact replacement of what was already there. #fail
- he did not glue trim to the wood, and it wasn't even secured
- he claimed is misaligned cuts were due to moisture
So much more.
We canceled his work on the third porch, a 42' veranda. He did not refund us. He shorted us product. He overcharged for materials. Still waiting for his I-9 information - that's my fault. BUYER BEWARE and exercise DUE DILIGENCE if you are considering Mark Hayner or Installations Unlimited in Asheville for your next construction project, deck, or any of the services listed on his website.
