I have pretty much been ghosted by Deitemeyer Brothers. They aren’t responding to my emails. The biggest issue is they issued me a 5-year workmanship warranty when I paid for a 10-year warranty, and they won’t respond to my emails to fix that issue.
There were other communication issues: No one gave us the heads up that the soffits were going to be installed until Sam called me about 10 minutes before Nick started on the house. Same thought Nick would let us know, and Nick thought Sam would let us know when the project would start. (It would have been nice to forewarn my husband who has a day-sleeping schedule.)
When Sam looked at the house and gave an estimate on the soffits, apparently he didn’t take into consideration the two external lighting fixtures. (In his defense, maybe he hadn’t encountered this type of external lighting before.)
When Nick was putting in the soffits, he said he couldn’t take them down and put them back up with the current soffit structure. So this was a surprise to me (and may have been to Nick and Sam), but I was put on the spot with a: “we have to take these lights down and can’t put them back up. We can put new ones in, but at $95 an hour for labor, it will cost about $500.” Sam was rather flippant about it and said we had to decide right away so Nick could proceed with the soffits. And my husband and I had to decide on the spot what to do—we wanted our external lighting, but $500 is a lot, especially on top of a $30,000 roofing project.
One selling point on choosing Deitemeyer Brothers was how clean the workers would leave the workspace—Sam mentioned this multiple times. While the work area looked clean, (and I even heard Sam tell the workers to clean up especially on the driveway) the next morning I punctured a tire with a roofing nail. I texted a picture to Sam, he said get it fixed and he’d cover the cost, and in addition to the $30 for the repair it cost me an hour and a half (and the kindness of a couple friends who got me to/from the car repair place). I texted a photo of the receipt to Sam that day.
When I got the final roofing bill online, the cost of the tire repair wasn’t deducted. I inquired about this via return email. Nick called me and said Sam would reach out to me and they’d fix the bill. I heard nothing from Sam. A week later I emailed again, this time including a scan of the receipt from Carko for the tire repair. No response. A week later, on Sept. 3 (when the original bill was due), I emailed, saying, hey, I’d like to pay my bill, but you still haven’t deducted the cost of the tire repair. Later that day I got a final bill with the deduction, and I paid the entire bill right away.
I received a paid receipt online, which included the 10-year workmanship warranty cost and the deducted cost of the tire repair.
Monday, Sept. 8, I got a printed 5-year workmanship warranty in the US mail, even though I paid for a 10-year warranty. I emailed Deitemeyer Brothers twice on this issue (Sept. 9, Sept. 11) and haven’t heard back from them yet.
I either want a copy of the 10-year warranty I paid for, or a refund of $533, which is the difference between the 5-year and 10-year workmanship warranties.
Kept in constant communication on the project & let us know exactly what to expect & when.
