I had Owens Corning done 24 years ago with the same Duration product, the same color, and the same everything. I kept one of the shingles from the old job, which they took off, and also did the underlayment, which was number 15 felt. I compared it to the new product, the same duration, same color, same everything, and the new product was considerably less weight. Which means less density and not as thick as the old product. We have frost here in Oregon and I noticed recently, after the roof was installed, that the frost on the roof is not as obvious as it used to be, which means that heat must be coming up and penetrating the new underlayment, which is just a thin sheet of something that is not felt. Also, the new duration Owens Corning weighs quite a bit less. I was going to take it to the place where I can get it weighed today, because I don't have a scale. In that area, I am disappointed because it freezes here. With the new product that has been put on, I noticed the roof doesn't freeze up as it used to. That means that there is heat penetrating. The heat from the house seems to get through the underlayment and then through the shingles. Which means that I am losing heat. That is in my judgement. I don't know, I just noticed the new duration shingle has considerably less weight and the thickness is less than the old. Of course, the underlayment used to be number 12 felt and not it just a thin product. I don't know what it is called. That is my complaint. It is not against the roofing company, just against the Owens Corning, and I don't know why. It can mean a lot of money to me, because of the loss of heat going up through the underlayment and the new shingle. It is concerning to my wife and I, so I don't know what to tell you. I don't know why and I wish they would have advised me of that. I would have paid more for thicker shingles. However, I bought the same that I had before, but I didn't realize they weren't as thick as the old ones. They were the same name, Duration Owens Corning, same color, same everything. We have frost right now, and I noticed that the heat came up from the house and we have no different heating system, everything is the same except for the roofing. I noticed the roof didn't have the frost that it used to have, so it is kind of disappointing for me and I don't know what to do about it. So, what that could do, it could eventually cost me a lot of money in heating costs during cold weather. I am really disappointed in that. I don't know what to do about it and that is my major complaint. I have no complaints against the roofing company because they were not aware of any of this. They just sell the roofing and put it on, and that is fine. The fact that I ordered the same as I had 24 years ago, I did the complete roof and kept one of my old roofing panels and it is heavier and thicker. Of course, a number felt as thicker than the paper they put on there now. So, I am disappointed and I am going to voice my disappointment as far as I can to figure out what happened. I mean, I am really disappointed if it costs me money. For another 25 years, the heat lost through the new shingles and underlayment, and that is kind of my fault because I did not inquire that closely. I thought I was getting the same product that I got 24 years ago, but it wasn't. It was thinner and it is supposed to be better, made out of fiberglass or something. The underlayment, the old number 15 felt was way thicker than the new paper-thin product they put on now. I am just in the middle of this disappointment. I don't' know and I don't know what you could do to help me, but I am really disappointed. I won't realize how disappointed until I get a heat bill because it seems to me that I am losing heat now, where I didn't before. Otherwise, the frost would be more prevalent on the roof. Before, my other roof frost was there all over the roof and not it is sparse. That is because heat is penetrating up into the shingles and causing the melting of the frost.
Father and Son Roofing was consistently easy to communicate with, friendly, reliable patient, and my roof and gutters look so good! I feel very confident that they did thorough work and didn’t cut any corners.
All of the personnel that we had contact with were personable and professional, from the Job Proposal through the job completion.
I was a bit nervous about such a large project on my house which is situated a bit oddly on a hillside. Some other businesses were unwilling to even bid or would offer an astronomical bid. Father & Son bid fairly and without any of the hard sale tactics used by some of the other local companies. They finished my project early and were flexible with the choice of materials. Crew that came out was professional and fast. Would recommend.
