Of the six contractors I dealt with in a recent project, all of them were craftsmen EXCEPT Archadeck. They claim their plans are proprietary and won't share the plans, so homeowners won't see the bad design ahead of time. I issued several stop-work orders once I found the shoddy work underway. Poor design on footers, undersized wood posts, wrong use of planking, and inferior hardware choice in mounting the ledger board to our house. Every step was a hot mess. Fortunately, the subcontractor salvaged this project. It was their second project working with Archadeck and they were still shaking their heads from the first. They saw the poor design and worked with me, the homeowner, on more prudent and lasting measures. Archadeck would come out, grumble about an informed homeowner and then charge extra to correct he shoddy initial plan.
