FREELITE, which began in Tucson in 1977 under the name "Desert Living," was not founded by businessmen. We were seven friends in our twenties, well-educated but naive, with big ideas and varying levels of carpentry experience. We were not particularly money-driven, and we were poorly capitalized, but we were resourceful and we were persistent. Our goal was to build an organization that would provide a livelihood for ourselves and for others while materially impacting our customers in a beneficial way. The company was to be a vehicle for making a mark on the world. We quickly learned that it wasn't easy to start and sustain a business. We tried landscaping, and then greenhouse building, and made very little money in those early years. Eventually we stumbled on a new product, skylights, that was just coming into vogue, and we were able to ride the wave of a new trend in home improvement: opening up interior spaces to natural light. In 1981, Chip Marvin moved to Phoenix with $500 and an old Ford pick-up truck to open a branch under the trade name "FREELITE," and, later, other partners carried the business to Los Angeles, San Diego, and Dallas. Eventually the company split up into five separate entities, all of which are still in operation. Our continued shortage of money posed many challenges. Lacking the resources needed for a showroom and a large inventory , we couldn't sell as many skylights as the big home improvement retailers. Instead, out of necessity, we concentrated on skylight installations, and soon it became apparent we had tapped into something marketable. People didn't like having to buy the product from a store and then shop for different tradesmen to perform the various types of work -carpentry , roofing, drywall finishing, painting, etc. -that comprise a typical installation. As specialty contractors offering "one-stop" shopping, we were able to bridge the huge gap in the buying process between the firsr stirring of a customer's interest and their actual enjoyment of the product in their home. Our business philosophy was to take complete responsibility for each project. This meant: listening to our customers to ascertain their needs and desires; educating them as to available options; matching a skylight design to their requirements using a low-key, no-pressure sales approach; and, finally, executing a professional installation, down to finishing touches.
Over the years, market demand and our desire to grow as a company have fueled an expansion into other daylighting products that enhance the beauty and value of homes: windows, doors, dome ceilings, and atrium enclosures. And while we have developed a large retail sales division, the heart of our business remains residential installations. Almost all of the items we carry are also available at the big chain stores and yet we now sell a greater volume of our premium skylight, Velux, than do all of the Arizona Home Depot outlets combined. This is because we do more than simply sell products; by overseeing our daylighting projects from start to finish, we literally transform living spaces. We haye responded to our customers and are successful as a result. Our slogan says it all: "We Deliver Daylight."

We are totally pleased with FREELITE and we would recommend them to anyone and everyone. They did the work they said they would do and they did it when they said they would. We are more than satisfied with everything.
The two installers were very professional and they did a really good job.
I was most satisfied with their promptness. They did exactly what they said they would do and they made sure to do it when they said they would do it, that means a lot to me. The quality of the product is also very good.
Judy from the office, Rick the salesman, and the installers were all really great to work with. Everyone was very nice.
We were just so happy we finally found the product we were searching for. It took us over a year but FREELITE had the product we wanted.
The salesman did a good job at explaining everything to us, he was very effective.
We had a big Christmas eve party here and I recommended to anyone who asked about it. There were around 140 people here.
The two service guys were very good, polite, and clean, and I appreciate that.
They got it done when others said they could not do it.
FREELITE kept my house 100% clean when they installed a new window for me. I was very happy with the quality product and service and with the follow up after the job to make sure I was fully satisfied.
Chip kept up with things and made sure to keep in touch with me through email. He made sure everything was going well. The installers were very personable.
Everyone involved in the project did a great job.
The process they used to demonstrate and suggest products to me was very effective.
I found both Chip and the installers to be professional. I have had work done through other companies where to the installers this was just another job site, Not so with the Freelite installers - all were respectful...and understood that although this was their "workplace" it was also my home.
As above...both Chip and the installers were very helpful.

My goal was to reduced the sunlight into the room. The old windows had not been replaced since the 60's so the room was not energy efficient. Even in the weeks since the product was installed I can already tell a difference in my energy bill.
Timely and professional.
Their customer service was very good. My calls and questions were answered and problems solved promptly.
The samples shown to me at the house, their showroom displays and product information on their website were all very effective.
Wrong type of glass in one window, one window had a scratch and our security system did not work after installation. All problems were solved.
They communicate really well and I was satisfied with the workmanship.
did a good job of recommending and giving me materials to educate me
Rick was exceptional to work with. I felt very comfortable with his experience level and advice. After requesting a visual, was able to see actual skylights prior to our job. He was very patient and explained everything in detail. Great follow up.
Nice company to work with
Freelite addressed problems effectively, however I do not feel Milgard did.
Rick was very professional with every aspect of my project in comparison to all other quote’s I solicited. His professionalism is one of the main deciding points for choosing Freelite.
We will be looking into new doors within the next year. When we do, we will definitely be contacting Freelite.
They were very prompt and tidy. They delivered what they said they would in a timely fashion.

Homebuilders, remodelers, real estate developers and home services companies pay GuildQuality for customer surveying and performance reporting. We refer to these companies as GuildQuality Members, Guildmembers, or members.
Our service helps Guildmembers monitor customer satisfaction and -- if they choose to publish survey feedback on our public website at guildquality.com -- articulate the quality of their service for prospective customers.
All of the Guildmember information we publish at guildquality.com has been provided to us either by the member (such as pictures of work and biographical information) or by their customers via one of our surveys (customer comments, performance summaries, and reviews).
All of the customer feedback that we publish is derived from the customers we survey. Our Guildmembers provide us with their customers' contact information, we conduct the surveys, they receive the feedback, and -- if they have chosen to make their feedback public -- the member's performance report is automatically updated to reflect the response. Members may choose to publish a summary of either all of their feedback or their most recent twelve months of feedback.
In addition to average performance ratings and survey statistics, GuildQuality also publishes two types of customer commentary: Comments and Reviews.
A comment has been provided by a survey respondent in response to any one of the survey questions we ask, and a member may or may not choose to publish it. Often customers provide unsolicited testimonials or compliments, and members can choose to share these comments in their published performance report.
Many Guildmembers choose to participate in our formal review process. These members have added an additional question on their survey: "If you'd like to provide a public review of your experience working with the Guildmember, please share it here." In contrast to comments, which a member selects to have published, we publish all reviews, provided they are at least 30 words long. With each review, we include a one to five star rating provided by the survey respondent.
It is important to note that GuildQuality does not endorse the qualifications of any company. We make no predictions, warranties or guarantees, expressed or implied, about the quality of any work a company on this website may provide. GuildQuality does not accept any liability whatsoever for any harm that might result from any statements presented on this website.
Prospective customers should weigh a multitude of factors when choosing the right building company, and never depend on a single source when making their decision to purchase a home or hire a contractor.
