Guildmaster Q&A

Company History

Morey Construction was founded in 1982 by Ben Morey as a Design/Build remodeling company that believes in understanding its clients first. We communicate that understanding through innovative and insightful space planning with interior and exterior design. With a proven system for design together with building, that educates and evaluates both needs and desires, and balancing investment with sustainable products with structural requirements. By doing this, it will provide for enjoyment with peace of mind for years to come to our clients.

With one company responsible for the design and construction, the client receives the distinct advantage of great communication from concept to completion, which we believe is the foundation for a successful project.

Scope of Work

With a dedicated design staff to guide our clients through the space/living planning and the material selection and design stages, the client has a "picture vision" before the start of any site work. Morey Construction will evaluate current needs for each client. With CAPS certified designers, we also use our experience for life changes that should be considered in the future. "Good design" brings both elegance and confidence to the design process.

The construction process starts with a site meeting to review the scope of work, project time schedule and daily routine. Weekly site meetings with the Project Manager keep everyone informed on the schedule and answer any questions. By using time line scheduling, both the client and Morey Construction know what is coming next.

Team Makeup

The client-'s first knowledge of Morey Construction is usually from a friend or neighbor who has had work done by us. Word of mouth has been our best referral. After that, a phone call to us will have our clients talking with one of our administrative staff who will take down their information regarding their project. Afterwards, the client will then speak with one of the Sales/Design team who will take them through the Design process. If the client and Morey Construction are a "fit" then the Design process will start with a meeting at our office and then an "As Built" appointment, where the designers measure the existing home, will be set up. After CAD renderings with preliminary sketches of the new work are approved by the clients, the design team will go on to finalize the plans. Several meetings will take place ending with the presentation of the final drawings and contract. After all has been approved and permits issued, a pre start meeting with the client and the Production team will take place and then building. Morey Construction firmly believes in open communication through out the design/build process and all of our staff encourages questions from our clients.

More than 90% of your clients would recommend your firm to a friend. How do you earn such high praise from your customers?

We tell them what we are going to do. We show them what we are going to do, and we make sure they are willing to be engaged in the project. Follow through on what you say you are going to do, is the best path to a successful relationship and project.

Why are you a builder/remodeler/contractor/developer?

No other type of construction involves more challenges from problem solving to design, with the ability to change people's lives for the better, by what you do in the environment they are in.

Is there anything else you'd like people to know about you and your company?

Morey Construction is a member of The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and we were proud to be selected as the Remodeler of the Month in August of 2007. We were named a BIG 50 company by Hanley Woods Remodeling magazine in 2005 for "Fine Design". We have been featured on local CBS network TV for CAPS (Certified Aging in Place) project, to talk about the planning and build out of an actual project.

Morey Construction

We would use Morey Construction again in a heart beat. They were professional and courteous. We received our final inspection on the day they said we would. But most importantly, they gave me the kitchen that I wanted and worked closely with me to iron out all the details.

Morey Construction

Even though my city was extremely difficult and inefficient when trying to get paperwork approved, Morey Construction did everything in their power to keep me updated on the progress and get the permits approved as quickly as possible. They went above and beyond to make sure that we stayed as close to the schedule as possible and even with delays beyond their control we were able to finish on time and on budget.

I was able to leave the country for almost 2 weeks in the middle of the project, and there were no phone calls and problems. I find that to be remarkable!!

Morey Construction

We chose Morey Construction for this extensive exterior/interior remodel because we were so pleased with our master bath remodel previously. On this project Morey helped us design and execute a complete conversion of a 70's era California home into a new Mediterranean Villa. Morey's ability to integrate our ideas with their design expertise and experience resulted in a truly impressive achievement. The craftsmen that built and finished the project were top notch; Morey's staff was on job site every morning at 7:30 and sub's were as well. Our pre-project timeline was generally spot-on. Our job was a fixed price project so no nasty financial surprises occurred. I would enthusiastically recommend Morey Construction to anyone seeking to build or remodel a whole home or a bath or kitchen. Who says this about a contractor! Just a completely satisfying experience.

Comment Communication Long Beach, CA Nov 11, 2011

As a general contractor, I don't know how anyone could respond faster and more effectively than Ben and his staff.

Careful attention to detail is their hallmark.(They even neatly filled in the two holes in our flowerbed after removing their sign).

Comment Additional Comment Torrance, CA May 18, 2010

I thought remodeling the kitchen would be a very stressful project but I didn't feel stressed in any way. The design felt right immediately and I had confidence the choices for materials would work out fine. It was just fun to come home and see what had happened during the day.

Comment Additional Comment Los Angeles, CA Oct 15, 2009

If I have anything to do around the house, I would definitely call them again without hesitation.

Comment Additional Comment Long Beach, CA Nov 21, 2008

When you hear about all the horror stories of remodeling and construction, I think with this project that we had it was so easy and so smooth, and a lot of that had to do with Morey Construction's professionalism. It was such a good experience! I wouldn't hesitate to do this again, and I would definitely do it through Morey Construction.

Comment Area Of Satisfaction Long Beach, CA Aug 07, 2008

Follow through on commitments were important to us and Morey Construction exceeded our expectation in this case.

Comment Additional Comment Long Beach CA, CA Apr 30, 2008

Every person we encountered throughout our remodel was friendly, helpful & professional. The end product of our remodel far surpassed the vision we had at the beginning of the project. We are very happy we made the decision to remodel with Morey Construction instead of moving.

About GuildQuality and our Guildmembers

Homebuilders, remodelers, real estate developers and home services companies pay GuildQuality for customer surveying and performance reporting. We refer to these companies as GuildQuality Members, Guildmembers, or members.

Our service helps Guildmembers monitor customer satisfaction and -- if they choose to publish survey feedback on our public website at guildquality.com -- articulate the quality of their service for prospective customers.

All of the Guildmember information we publish at guildquality.com has been provided to us either by the member (such as pictures of work and biographical information) or by their customers via one of our surveys (customer comments, performance summaries, and reviews).

Surveys, Comments and Reviews

All of the customer feedback that we publish is derived from the customers we survey. Our Guildmembers provide us with their customers' contact information, we conduct the surveys, they receive the feedback, and -- if they have chosen to make their feedback public -- the member's performance report is automatically updated to reflect the response. Members may choose to publish a summary of either all of their feedback or their most recent twelve months of feedback.

In addition to average performance ratings and survey statistics, GuildQuality also publishes two types of customer commentary: Comments and Reviews.

A comment has been provided by a survey respondent in response to any one of the survey questions we ask, and a member may or may not choose to publish it. Often customers provide unsolicited testimonials or compliments, and members can choose to share these comments in their published performance report.

Many Guildmembers choose to participate in our formal review process. These members have added an additional question on their survey: "If you'd like to provide a public review of your experience working with the Guildmember, please share it here." In contrast to comments, which a member selects to have published, we publish all reviews, provided they are at least 30 words long. With each review, we include a one to five star rating provided by the survey respondent.

Important Information about choosing a Builder, Remodeler, or Contractor

It is important to note that GuildQuality does not endorse the qualifications of any company. We make no predictions, warranties or guarantees, expressed or implied, about the quality of any work a company on this website may provide. GuildQuality does not accept any liability whatsoever for any harm that might result from any statements presented on this website.

Prospective customers should weigh a multitude of factors when choosing the right building company, and never depend on a single source when making their decision to purchase a home or hire a contractor.
