Company History

Villa Builders has been building beauty and comfort into homes in and around Ann Arundel County since 1997. Before setting out on his own, Jeff Hall, owner of Villa Builders began his career as a carpenter and worked his way up through the building trades. Upon the creation of Villa Builders, Jeff was determined to bring the warmth and personal service of a family-owned business to his clients. Jeff wants Villa's approach to ensure every project is professionally handled for the CLIENT's satisfaction. Joanne joined the team in 2003. She handles all of the administration and marketing efforts.

Scope of Work

Villa Builders offers a design package to facilitate the creation of a project. We've enjoyed building many different types of projects, including whole house remodels, kitchens, bath renovations, and additions. For homeowners with a completed design, Villa Builders also offers a project development package separate from the design service. We are able too tailor the processes to meet the needs of the client.

Typical Workload

We typically have two or more projects in design or development, two or more in construction. It is really dependent on the types of projects we have in progress. We are extraordinarily sensitive to schedules and timely completion. We don't take on more than we can properly manage.

Team Makeup

We have developed a great team. Jeff enjoys going out and meeting potential clients and oversees production and estimating. Joanne, our marketing and administration manager maintains the office operations, and plays a key role in maintaining client confidence, contributing to Villa's success.

Lead carpenters manage the day to day events on the project's site.

Among Villa Builders many strengths, Jeff has taken great care to develop essential, long-standing relationships with vendors and trades people whom we treat as trade partners. Because of these extraordinary efforts, Villa Builders is often asked back to complete additional projects for satisfied clients and boasts a long list of client references.

More than 90% of your clients would recommend your firm to a friend. How do you earn such high praise from your customers?

We do two things. First, we understand the client's expectations and address those needs consistently. Second, we communicate and pay attention to the experience the clients are having with our team. For example, we know that NOT maintaining a schedule can be a source of frustration for homeowners during their project. Our schedules are written, with a copy maintained on our communication board located at the Owner's home. The schedule is reviewed and updated by the lead carpenter and production manager weekly; and further reviewed for benchmarks coming up over the next three weeks. Everyone knows the schedule. Posting the schedule raises the bar and demonstrates to everyone on the team how important the schedule really is. Our schedule shows everyone we are doing what we said we would do. You cannot hit a target if you haven't identified what it is.

Approach to Working With Clients

Earning homeowners high level of trust is really important. Trust is earned, and developing it begins in our first conversations. People want the truth and are most comfortable when they know what to expect. In order for us to help our clients, we need to learn what is important to them. This will help us to serve them best. We warmly invite our clients to share feedback about their experience with us. This strengthens what we are doing well, and we truly want to learn what we should improve.

What should clients bring to the table and contribute during the construction process?  What can they do to help make the relationship a success?

Clients should articulate their assumptions. If they see something that doesn't make sense, or meet their expectations, it is always a good idea to bring it up. Joanne calls clients weekly to see how the project's progress is going and we want their honest feedback. Clients should also be nice to themselves - go out to dinner and keep getting their house cleaned.
