In 1987, Jonas Carnemark founded a company to realize his creative goal: to bring home remodeling dreams to life-with both beauty and purpose.
He grew a 17-person design/build firm where devotion to the clean lines of modern design flows easily alongside attention to comfort. Where form and function-and service and integrity-co-exist naturally.
Homeowners across the Washington metro area and nationally have celebrated the company's results. Regularly honored as a top designer and builder, Carnemark has been a guest on such television shows as Good Morning America to the Food Network's Ultimate Kitchens.
Carnemark was born in Sweden and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, in a family where art mattered-his grandfather owned a modernist gallery in Sweden. He attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, majoring in physics and engineering. In work ranging from environmental design and solar installation in California to carpentry on historic preservation projects in Washington, he sharpened his practical training.
Throughout the years, his firm has renovated and restored some of Washington's oldest properties and helped define modern residential design as well as design/build as an industry. Always a pioneer, Carnemark penned the firm's sustainable mission in 1997 and has applied sustainable design to projects for more than a decade.
A Certified Remodeler (CR) and Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD), Carnemark also serves as a voice for the profession, leading discussions, giving lectures and writing for industry periodicals. A regular speaker at both local and national home shows, he advises other growing companies on strategies for success. Education doesn't stop there-the entire Carnemark team is constantly involved in the pursuit of best practices through classes, conferences and participation in Remodelers Advantage, an industry peer-review group.
Although word of mouth provides a steady source of work for CARNEMARK, many have learned about the firm through local and national mentions in the media. But not every project is the right fit. CARNEMARK chooses projects that challenge: whole-house renovations and additions as well as kitchens, baths, home offices and media rooms. A unifying element is making every space useful and beautiful. And the ultimate effect is making every space joyful.
Using a carefully crafted design/build process, where balancing budget and desire lead to award-winning creations, the CARNEMARK team continually earns the trust and loyalty of clients. So much so that they keep coming back for more remodeling or just to stay in touch. "We love CARNEMARK" was an often-heard client comment at a recent company party.
Jonas lives with his wife and three daughters, an orange dog, a mischievous cat, and a funny-looking border collie in a mid-century contemporary. In his downtime, Jonas skis (extreme whenever possible) and plays guitar for HusBand, a funk/dance band that regularly records in his at-home studio.
