Scope of Work

A.B.A. Home Remodelers specializes in mid to high-end custom residential remodeling. We are proficient in Design / Build strategies as well as interacting with our clients' own Architect and Designer groups. We have extensive experience in historical home renovation as well as Whole House Remodeling, Master Suites, Kitchens, Baths, Dormers, Basements, special use rooms such as Wine Cellars and in home Offices and Home Additions.

Typical Workload

Annual Sales for A.B.A. Home Remodelers Inc. over the past several years has ranged between 3 million and 5 million dollars. All of the work involved remodeling projects to residential homes. It's not uncommon, and totally in the realm of our capacity to have multiple jobs running all the time. As demonstrated by our Guild Quality feedback from our clients, our projects always come in on-time and on-budget with satisfied clients.

Team Makeup

We like to refer to the Remodeling Project in four phases, the design and budgeting phase, the pre-construction phase, the production phase, and the warranty phase. For phase one we employ a talented design staff and estimating department to help get the dream design and budget under control. Phase two requires lots of preparation to insure a timely production phase to follow, and A.B.A. has the resources to get all those final details worked out ahead of time. Then there is phase three, the actual production and implementation of all the prior planning and designing, and here is where we employ a very talented group of carpenters and project managers to get the job done right, and in a timely and professional manner. We like to refer these wonderful people as our "Field Talent". Phase four is the obvious period of warranty that will follow, and as demonstrated by our three decades in the business, we will be there for you, not just to stand behind the project we've already completed, but to help you and your family and friends with any other projects they may be considering in the future.

Personal

Something more on a personal note would be the fact that this family business was started nearly 30 years ago with myself, Tony Wizner, President and CEO, along with my father who was a subcontractor in the industry all his life. My dad's motto still stands strong in this company today, "Never promise what you can't deliver, never touch anything that you cannot do better than anyone else, and always stand behind your work 100%". This will all but guarantee you work for as long you want it. The Remodeling Process is a very demanding one indeed, and takes huge dedication and many years of experience to really be able to deliver on a high level. We specialize in the most demanding projects simply because we have just about done it all, and know what it takes to make it happen.

More than 90% of your clients would recommend your firm to a friend. How do you earn such high praise from your customers?

A.B.A Home Remodelers is always striving towards our company Mission Statement, providing exemplary service that creates not just satisfied clients but Raving Fan Clients, customers who have truly had their expectations exceeded and will go out of their way to tell someone about us. Customers who will call A.B.A "My Contractor" not "The Contractor" when talking to their friends, colleagues and neighbors. How can you go wrong with a Mission Statement that insists on "Raving Fan Clients, Raving Fan Employees, Projects delivered on time, and Projects delivered within the budget. We do not market very much in the more common ways business owners might. We prefer to recognize that every employee, on any given day, at any given time can do one of only two things, exceed an expectation, or come up short of an expectation. Exceeding every tiny little expectation, every minute of the day, every day of the week is the secret to earning "Raving Fan Customer".

Client Profile

Our client profile is best described as extremely smart, family oriented folks, possibly with both spouses enjoying successful careers and in need of a professional company that can handle the entire project from start to finish with the professionalism and capabilities necessary to deliver a top notch service and project.

Approach to Working With Clients

From the time you make your initial contact with A.B.A. Home Remodelers, our professional team kicks into gear and generates relevant information about you and your dream for your home. We do so through a thoughtful and cogently planned procedure. This approach insures that we jointly build a scope of work that is practical yet creative; can be constructed within your specific circumstance; and takes into special account your budget so that there are no hidden future costs. Our proposal for work is only presented after extensive preliminary discussion and research, including one or more walk-throughs, that insures the completeness of our proposal. We are very conscious of our commitment to each and every client. We will never accept a project if it will in any way inhibit our ability to produce a top quality product for a commitment we have already made. We also recognize that a certain amount of physical dislocation and emotional upheaval is inherent to the remodeling process. That's why each project is overseen by a Project Manager specifically chosen because of his/her expertise and experience in that area of construction. Furthermore, field personnel and sub-contractors are expected to promote on-going job site cleanliness and teamwork, along with their particular trade. Even after completing construction of a project, A.B.A. Home Remodelers is not through with our process. We guarantee our work for one year from the time of completion so that a client's comfort level is maintained. In that way we are assured of having built a relationship with our clients that will make them go out of their way to promote our company and refer us to family and friends. These are clients who are proud to have been exposed to our culture, philosophy and the way we do business.

How do you market your company?

We market our company in many ways: through our great reputation and quality of work, through our clients' referrals, though our company job signs and trucks, and also through professional referrals by Realtors, Architects & Designers. Let's not forget what was mentioned above: we prefer to recognize that every employee, on any given day, at any given time can do one of only to things, exceed an expectation, or come up short of an expectation. Exceeding every tiny little expectation, every minute of the day, every day of the week is the secret to earning "Raving Fan Customer".

What should clients bring to the table and contribute during the construction process?  What can they do to help make the relationship a success?

That is a great question. I profess and believe that every project is the result of the contractor and the client together. Neither can do a great job without the other. That's why I spend so much time helping them understand what to expect from the beginning. Even we cannot exceed an unrealistic expectation. So I would say that having realistic expectations is key. Being a good decision maker is a plus, but it's my experience that the remodeling process is nothing short of being overwhelming for even the best decision makers. That's why we emphasize preparation in the beginning, when it can be done leisurely instead of after the home is torn apart and in disarray. A.B.A. tries to prioritize the process and break it down into small bite-size pieces to help eliminate the sense of urgency so often felt in the midst of the project itself. Remember, a good contractor is not defined by just a good quality job and workmanship, but we are most often measured by the process the client has to endure throughout the project. The quality and the process are equally important.

What are the biggest challenges facing companies like yours in the building industry?  What are some of the challenges facing your business right now?

It's funny you ask that question now, as the entire Remodeling and Home Building industry is experiencing a slowdown overall. Your very best contractors with the most experience will always be there because they have learned what it takes over the years to survive in this very difficult business. Probably the biggest challenge we all face is finding good quality people. Again I go back to experience. The companies with the most experience know how to attract the best people and hold onto them over time.
