In the process of our ordering and installation I was Diagnosed with cancer and had to start Chemotherapy treatment. Champion finished my window installation around my treatments.
This was our second time using Champion windows. The first time we had eleven windows replaced and it was a smooth and great experience for us, which is why we didn't even think twice about who we were going to use for replacing the eight windows that needed replaced. After this experience I would say that we were wrong for not thinking twice. We had just got home from a vacation and were really excited that we called and were able to get our window installation scheduled for the next day (July 3rd). The issues really began once installation started. The crew came out a little after eight in the morning and began working to remove the windows. During this process they ran into issues removing some of the windows and it took them much longer than they were expecting to do this project. At the end of the day they were at our house until about 9:30 pm. We felt bad for the workers because that was a long day for them, but because of that I think they started to lack in the quality of the work a little bit. Even after working this thirteen hour day, they still did not get done with all of the trim wrapping of the windows, so they asked us if they would be able to come back sometime between Saturday July 5th and Monday July 7th. I said we would be available and was told they would let us know when they were coming. Since it was dark when they left we were not really able to look get a good look at the windows, so when we woke up the next morning we noticed that all of the Double-Hung Window sashes were wobbly in the frame, we could see light through the edges of the windows, not all windows locks were working, and the trim wrap on the outside didn't match the wrapping that had been done on the first window job we had done through Champion (the bottom wrapping was different than the other wrapping and we also noticed there was trim around two of the windows that were different sizes on the left vs right side of the same window). The picture windows looked fine but we did notice some caulking issues, cracked wall around were they were prying on the old windows to get them out, and some caulking on the windows themselves (we figured these would be some things that happen and that they would be caught during cleanup so we didn't really say anything at this point). We planned to point out some of the other issues when they returned to work. We were eventually sent a text at 12:36 PM on Saturday July 5th that they would come back on Sunday July 6th at 9:00 AM to finish up. When they came back on Sunday there were only two workers that showed up this time and when I went to point out some of the issues to them they could not speak English so I was not able to communicate effectively with them. They did try to call a couple of people to translate, but were unable to reach anyone. I ended up having to use a Google translator on my phone that said if they need to wait and come back on Monday with someone to translate that would be fine with us. While I couldn't understand exactly what was exactly being said, one of the workers body language when talking did give the sense that he was a bit annoyed. They agreed that they would come back on Monday. We did try to call and text some people at Champion to talk about the issues and get some clarification on things, but were unable to get a response from anyone. Nobody ever got back to us about when specifically anyone was going to come back on Monday, but they did eventually show up on Monday and I was able to speak with someone about the issues. They looked at the Double-Hung Windows to see if they could make adjustments to them to fix the gap issues, wobbling, and latching issues. In the process of doing this I feel like again the detail to their work was not really there. As they were cutting off the caulking that they had put on the windows on Thursday they seemed to be rushing with it as ended putting some gashes in the interior trim woodwork and also put a gash in one of the window frames themselves (these are some things that in the end they did try to fix; some better than others). In the end after trying to make adjustments they were un-able to fix the issues with all four of the Double-Hung windows and they said that they would have their manager come and look at them. We also tried to get in contact with the installation manager on Monday July 7th as well. It took a few attempts, but we did end up getting ahold of Mark Pruett and he said that he would talk with the installers and then see if someone or him could get out to look at them. This was also a night when we were supposed to get a big thunderstorm so because we had unwrapped windows with bit holes in the foaming, meaning openings into our house, I had to put tup some tarps over two of the windows so water wouldn't get in. On Tuesday July 8th, Mark did call me back and said he was going to come out and look at them. When he came out he found they he believe all of the tilt sash latches on all four of the Double-Hung's were installed in the wrong spot causing all of the windows to not close properly. He said he would have service order all new sashes for the Double-Hung windows, but he would have the crew come back either later that day or the next day to finish the job, and then they would just install the new sashes once they got them. I did also point out some of the attention to detail that we were concerned about with the installation crew like the caulking, scratches and trim, and he said he took pictures and would let the crew know to fix those things. My wife also called Mark as well to voice some of her concerned with the process and her hesitation with signing anything after they completed wrapping the windows because we felt like it didn't really make sense for us to sign that the job was completed when we really felt like we still didn't get four quality windows that we were paying for, but we moved forward anyway. The rest of Tuesday July 8th and Wednesday July 9th went by without them coming back. My wife called Mark at ask that he come out as well to check on the progress and was told they were going to be coming back on Thursday July 10th between 9:30 and 10:30 to finish the job and Mark would come as well. There was another thunderstorm that night so I again had to buy tarp materials to cover he unfinished windows so that water wouldn't get in and create mold. On Thursday, my wife had a medical procedure that day so I dropped her off at that and came back by 9:30 and waited for over and hour without anyone showing up. I was eventually called around 10:45 that I needed to go and pick up my wife, so I did that and came back but still no one had shown up. I eventually received a text at 11:40 AM saying that there was a miss communication somehow and they messed up the schedule and went to another job instead and that they would try to be there as soon as possible to finish the job. At 3:09 PM that day we then got a text that said they would be there in 30 minutes. They did show up at 3:40 PM and started to work on the trim. Mark came a look at things as they were working. As they were going through finishing things we were pointing out things like caulking and other things that they needed to clean up, and it just seemed like every time we pointed out something needing to be cleaned up and fixed there was another thing that popped up. For example, when they tried to fix the caulking they ended up dropping a little caulking in two spots on our carpet, or getting it on the window. I even pointed out one spot on the window where their was caulking for them to clean off and they wiped down the window but still didn't even clean off the caulking, so we had to ask another worker to do it. As they were wrapping up and just cleaning the windows they were cleaning the upper window that were high off the ground where we can't reach them with a Magic eraser which left bad streaks. I found one of the workers that I could speak to and asked if they would be able to clean the upper windows better because once they left we wouldn't be able to do it. The same worker that seemed a bit annoyed on the Sunday when they can again seemed annoyed that he had to clean it again. When he went to put the ladder up on the house he was banging up against the house, which left scuff marks on our fairly new painted house (when we saw these scuffs, we also notice another place after they left where there was a big scuff on the paint). They kept trying but couldn't get it clean so they apparently had to call someone to bring them a bottle of window cleaner because they didn't have any. They had to wait quite a while for someone to bring one and once they did they cleaned it well and quickly. We were even told that normally they give a can of the cleaner spray to their customers but they couldn't give one to us because that was the last can in the warehouse. They also couldn't fix a screen on one of the double hung windows that they broke because they didn't have any screen left. Even though there were still some things not as touched up or clean as we would have liked, we just got to the point where we told them we were good and that they could be done. As I said before, when we brought things to fix it just felt like more things got messed up, so we just cut our losses. We ended signing the completion document with some adjustments from myself. When I was called by the service department the next day to verify the what we still needed she read off that we needed "three sashes for double hungs and a window screen" which was incorrect as we needed four sashes. When I told he she sounded confused and asked who said that and when. When I told her she seemed to find the note written by Mark Pruett and read off that it said four sashes. She told me that she would call Mark to verify what was needed and that she would call me back. She never called me back. This has really just been rough process all around. From the lack of communication or communication issues during installation, installation crew issues, to the issue with the products themselves. I do want to make a note here that the installation crew and Mark Pruett were all very kind and nice individuals (even the installer that seemed annoyed). They were very polite and seemed to want to help. To be honest, we still have over 20 windows that have to be replaced and this experience has definitely made us pause on if Champion is the way to go. We had such a good experience the first time, but this week-long bad experience is hard to throw up to it being a fluke. We are not really these types of people, but we (with the support of Mark and our salesman Hunter) have not yet paid the last payment because we want to wait until we actually get the correct with sashes and that the project is really truly done, but I honestly feel that we should get some sort of discount for the stress that this has been and time we have lost over the course of that week waiting and trying to be available for things to actually get done. Not to mention the fact that we still have to spend money of fixing some of the issues like the siding touch up, drywall fixes, and other things that we want to clean up. For the price we pay for these windows, and the longstanding reputation this company has, we expected the experience to go much smoother than it did. We hope that we can come back and later update this review with more stars, but we are still waiting...
Wish they were cheaper
When I ordered my windows and doors in march they said it would be 10 weeks until installation. Which should have been the second week of June. Didn’t hear anything about the timeline and had to call the second week of July and finally got a response and within a week got them installed.
Customer service when received was really good. Communication between interactions was poor. I would have liked a more clean outline of timeline and pdf invoice to look back on.
On thursday, my service was scheduled for Monday but then I didnt receive any update on my service between that time and by Monday morning. I had to call Champion to see if the scheduled service was still happening.
i would recommend Champion windows, but not their patio doors. They are not worth the money for what we paid for ours.
The wrong window was put in. Twice more, the replacement was incorrect. We felt ghosted because there was no communication for 2 months, and no effort to compensate us for the times that we took off from work to be there to wait and meet the installer. There was no 30 minute heads up that the installer was on the way. No confirmation call or text the day before the install.
They were professional and installed the windows quickly! We noticed an instant change in the temperature on our second floor, and there was a noticeable reduction in noise from outside.
Very professional, easy to order, and quick install!
It was a long wait
Horrible communications cannot never reach anyone and when you do it takes forever for them to call you back if they call you back at all.
Easy to work with and great price!
So very, very pleased with the installed windows. The crew of Will, Andy, Christian, and Eli were so respectful of our home and outside landscape plantings. They were hard workers and we enjoyed having them in our home.
Everything was very smooth, from the salesperson to installation, it was seamless! We didn’t have any issues and they were available for any questions.
We were told that two teams would be combining to put our windows in as a single day event. We only had two members of one team that were there. That being said, they did an extraordinary job, completing the job in a professional manner in just one day as promised
We were kept in the loop and everyone was very professional
Communication was the biggest part for me. I knew exactly what the status was on my order.
Very responsive and quick to schedule appointments. Windows are fantastic quality and were installed weeks ahead of schedule.
It was so quickly completed with little mess.
Windows should be double glass like my older style windows. So inside windows don't get wet from rain and snow.
The quality and craftsmanship of our windows is excellent. It took numerous requests and lack of response and feedback to get some missing metal work done on the outside of our house after the window was installed. Our screens did not fit properly and it took almost 4 weeks to resolve and get fixed. In short the windows and install are wonderful, the follow up afterwards was not good. BTW the siding crew that was sent out to finish the install work was phenomenal!!
The door doesn’t align at bottom and the gap is about 1 and a half inches in diameter. Somebody needs to fix this problem before I recommend your product to anyone
Great people great work
Very professional. Salesman explained things well. The installers were polite and efficient and thankfully one spoke English. Nice crew. St this time I am pleased.
Left a huge mess, took 4 days to do what was supposed to be a 2 day job. Left and work still isnt finished.
