Los Altos Kitchen Remodel
This client hosts monthly dinner parties with an average guest list of 12 people. As such, the kitchen was a place where guests would congregate which also accentuated some of it performance deficiencies of the space; -Tile countertops with unsightly and high maintenance grout lines -Insufficient general and task light (despite the bay window) -Dead space in cabinets and insufficient storage -Not conducive to entertaining As a graphic designer herself, the client's aesthetic guideline was to maintain the blue and white color scheme, but to implement it in a more updated presentation. The peninsula wall cabinets were designed with glass fronted doors on both sides and a taller pass-thru space below. The glass doors provided openness to the space that gave the illusion of a larger kitchen. Meanwhile the countertop overhang provides an informal eating bar which also doubles as a place for guests to sit during dinner parties.
