As far as I can tell at this time, the system is pretty good, but, since it is winter, I don't know how effective it will be in the Fall. Right now it has frozen a couple of time. Since we are moving into the spring, that should not be a problem until next winter.

I have a client that would like to frame, insulate & drywall over a exterior door in her kitchen. The home is in DC are there any code issues or permits req?

You need to consult the local building and zoning department.  Changing means of egress may not be allowed or may require a permit.
Do you have to use a specific light bulb when using a dimmer switch.
