Are your customers telling you the whole truth?
Recently I had the pleasure of attending the 2018 Digitial Summit in Atlanta on behalf of the marketing team at GuildQuality. Hundreds of business professionals gathered to learn about the newest trends in social media marketing, content strategy and creation, SEO best practices, marketing automation, and much more. Three days and eighteen pages of notes later, I walked away feeling confident about tackling the opportunities and challenges facing small business marketers like myself.
After having time to reflect on what I learned at the conference, there were three things that stuck out to me. If you are involved with marketing in any way, shape, or form, these takeaways are for you.
1. Technology is your best friend
It’s incredible how many new programs are created every day to make our lives easier. While this is great, it can also be overwhelming to figure out which products/services are the best to use. Here is a list of recommended apps, websites, and tools that will help you do your job better.

Know your audience
Marketing is not a one size fits all kind of hat. In order for your efforts to be effective, you must understand who you are talking to. Take the time to research and answer these questions so your message can be clearly communicated.
Who is my audience?
- Marital status
How do they think?
- Personality types
What media do they consume?
- Social platforms
- Internet sites
Once you have a clear picture of who you are talking to, it will be much easier to fine-tune your messaging. If you need help researching your target market, check out some of the tools listed earlier under Audience Insights.
Mobile over desktop
It’s no secret that mobile phones are becoming the preferred vehicle for digital consumption. In fact, starting this year, Google is implementing mobile-first indexing. This means that Google will create and rank its search listings based on the mobile version of content instead of the desktop version.
In order to stay ahead of the competition, it is important to evaluate all aspects of your mobile experience. According to Google, 53% of mobile users abandon sites that take longer than 3 seconds to load. Additionally, and 8 out of 10 customers stop engaging with content that doesn’t display well on their device. Not sure what your mobile load speed is? With the right tools, the right messaging, and the right platform, you too can conquer the challenges of marketing in today’s digital world.
