GuildQuality Employee Spotlight: Alex OverallSeptember 20th, 2017 by
Happy Three-Year Anniversary Alex!
Name: Alex Overall
Title: Technical Services Engineer
Start Date: September 15, 2014
Tell me about yourself; where are you from and what brought you to GuildQuality?
I’m originally from LaGrange, GA, and I moved to Atlanta to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology. Since graduating, I have continued to live and work in the area. I started my career working at WhatCounts, an email marketing company, and moved to GuildQuality to focus on building great software products.
How would you describe the environment here?
GuildQuality is a radical improvement machine! For our members, the tools we provide give them insights that they can use to change their businesses for the better. For GuildQuality employees, the support, encouragement, and freedom to grow professionally and personally are unparalleled.
Tell me about your favorite GQ memory?
This year, the engineering team took to the north Georgia mountains for a team-building retreat. We had a great time at my teammate Zack’s cabin and then went zip lining at Unicoi State Park. That’s something I never thought I would do, but you’d be surprised what a really supportive team can get you to do. It was a blast.
Where do you see the home building/renovation industry in 5 years?
I expect that software will continue to become more and more integral to the customer experience in the home building and renovation industry. As the millennial generation starts to buy homes and the baby boomers make plans for aging in place, I think that the prospects for the industry are great, but that opportunity will come hand-in-hand with greater customer expectations. If folks are willing to comparison shop can openers, I imagine they will be exponentially more engaged in the largest investments they make—their homes.
What are you most excited about for the upcoming year?
The entire engineering team has been working hard on some major releases that will be launching in the coming months. I don’t want to give too much away, but I think our members will be very, very happy with the new features.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I spend most of my spare time hanging out with my wife, Evelyn, and our dog, Judy. I would say that I hang out with our cat, but it’s more of a standoff than a hangout. We love traveling, exploring the trails around our house, going to concerts and art events, and finding fantastic food around town.
Out of all the restaurants you’ve ever been to, which is your absolute favorite and where is it located?
This is an impossible question for me. I love trying different cuisines on Buford Highway and checking out whatever new place has opened in Atlanta’s thriving food scene, but if I must come to one, it would be Eats on Ponce de Leon Ave. Chicken, veggies, and cornbread cannot steer you wrong.
