Great Answers: What to consider before a kitchen remodelFebruary 10th, 2017 by
Although kitchen remodels aren’t uncommon, they are incredibly personal, expensive, and time-consuming, and often require significant planning and decision-making from both the homeowner and the remodeler. In short, because there’s a lot at stake, kitchen renovations are potentially very stressful.
Fortunately, there are several ways to avoid mid-project meltdowns or mishaps, one of which is knowing exactly what to consider prior to starting a kitchen renovation. According to HGTV, there are several key questions to ask that will make the planning process much easier, the first being, “Am I loving or listing?” To read the rest of these must-ask questions, click here.
We also asked our Crew members what they believe is most important to determine before starting such a large-scale project. Here’s what Guildmember Kara Wilson, from New England Design & Construction, suggested:
“First, figure out how you are going to use the space. What works about your current kitchen that you would like to maintain? What drives you nuts, and how can you solve that? Second, take a look at what you can reasonably afford. If you have a very low budget, DIY options may be the way to go. If you have a bit more disposable income, you might look into hiring an architect, designer, or a design-build company to take a look at the project.”
Another Guildmember gave the following advice:
“Spend some time on Pinterest to narrow down your ideas. Next, research online and find three great [remodeling] companies to interview, and take some time deciding which one to select. This is an involved process, so you must have chemistry with the person you work with. Ensure that they’ll be available throughout the renovation process, not just for the sale. Also, consider all components to the kitchen: appliances, cabinetry, heating sources-gas, electric etc, flooring, flow, lighting, etc.
