We are being told by Toll Brothers/Coleman homes that all new homes have the interior door latches hit the wood trim before engaging the strike plate. Toll Brothers/Coleman homes built our new home in Nampa, Idaho and during the 30 day walkthrough, we were told all new home builders put the door trim on so the latch hits the trim before engaging the strike plate. This doesn't sound correct, and neither of our other Semi-Custom homes we bought had this problem. Can someone look at the attached photos and let us know if this is the new "Norm"? They told us if we don't like the way all the interior doors work, we can replace all of the strike plates with longer ones... but it would be at our expense.

The thin vinyl frame on the outside of a window has cracked. How can I repair this without replacing the entire double window?

You can more than likely call the manufacturer that made the window and just have a replacement sash made.

Do contractors need to ask screening questions before entering a home during the COVID shutdown? There is a small business, Reborn Cabinets, acting negligently during this time and is endangering individuals in the Sacramento area as well as LA County, Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County, and Las Vegas, Nevada. They have blatantly disregarded government mandates in all counties and most likely not have to share how they distributed money from the payment protection program or what they did to follow the mandates. This is concerning as a homeowner in Orange County. THIS IS A GENERAL CONTRACTOR. REBORN CABINETS DOES NOT DO NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS unless the individual is willing to spend $4k plus to get their smallest package for a bathroom.

How do i fix my sliding window.

Its sounds like you have a double hung window that slides up and down check to see if the outer top window can slide up then lock it. If the glass is sperating from the frame you can take it to a glass replacement company and they will fix the frame and glass if not vinyl welded

I would recommend replacing the window.

sealing or adding any aftermarket seals would most likely sacrifice operation

Front door damage from dog. Is this fixable?
Dec 27, 2019

It can definitely be repaired, it would need extensive spackling, most likely with 2 part Bondo, then sended primed and painted.

this is something that should not take more than 6-8 hours in total, obviously it does require some skill.

How do i fix my sliding window. So when my sprinklers go off what comes with is a god awful sulfur smell. It’s a city wide thing when sprinklers are run. The thing I shouldn’t smell it in my house. I walked by that window on the way to feed the cat, and I was smacked in the face with that smell. That window also seemed to let all the noise in, the wind. The window on other side is the exact same kind, no awful smell and no noise. The windows are on either side of the front door. Not familiar with sliding windows. But how I keep the smell out and the noise down. I did notice that piece that slides up and down I could get the tips of my fingers in there and they got cold. It’s cold front season. Wasn’t sure if that was normal for a sound glass window. How do I fix and make it as nice and quite and smell free as it’s counter part on the other side of the front enterance.

The picture shows the door is stained wood.  The wood is repairable but the door will have to be painted or the repairs will be visible.

Do you know if the estimate from Home Depot was to replace the entire door assembly or just the (door(s)?).   If they estimated the cost including removal and replacement of door jambs, threshold, and door trim, then an alternative that could cost less would be to replace the door slabs only and keep the existing jambs and trim.

Front door damage from dog. Is this fixable? Hello. I was dog sitting my coworker's dog and he chipped up my wooden front door. My coworker has already agreed to pay for the repairs. I had a consultation with Home Depot regarding their door installation service. The rough estimate for a brand new door (plus hinges, sill, trim, etc) and labor charge was about $1800. Is there a method that could get this repaired for much less money? Perhaps some sort of patchwork and repainting? I am not handy at all so I would need to hire someone for that.

Anyone know about good windows that reflect heat and energy efficent on electric bills? Did check on NT but think they may be cheap windows need a Pro ?
Oct 24, 2019

The glass package and the insulation of the window are the most important. The best window would be quadriple or triple pane window with foamfilled sashes and krypton or argon gas inbetween the glass. The dense gas keeps the cold air out in the winter and the hot air out in the summer. The foam filled sashes keep the insulation like your walls. Also choose vinyl over wood for better insulation,

the most important thing you need to make sure you have is a highly rated low-e window. low -e will reflect the solar rays away from the inside of your home so it doesn't heat up during the summer or direct sun etc and during the winter it works in the opposite manor. winter it will keep the heat inside your home keeping your house comfortable. there are many good brands of windows like Andersen, Western, Hurd, Marvin, Eagle (andersen), just to make a few. be sure and do plenty of research and get estimates from. 4-5 companies and compare dont just get estimates from 1 or 2 companies. good luck.

How do I fix what appears to be a sagging door and one that is very difficult to lock? I had the same problem last year but not nearly as bad. If I lifted it up a little I could lock the door. This year it is worse and takes a lot more muscle to lift up on the door. I can see at the top where the knob side of the door has a bigger Gap then on the right which is where the door is attached. Who would I get to come out and look at this and possibly fix it? And what do you think the problem ? My back door is sometimes hard to lock as well but it seems to straighten itself out.

Dog chewed up our french doors. How to fix them? Pictures included.

Its painted; go to hardware store.  Buy spackle and sand paper.  Sand it down, spacke the scrapes.  Sand the spackle.  Repeat again, though after this spackle prime the door.  Then spackle and prime and paint.  You are looking at spackle 3 or more times, priming it more than once and then paitning two coats.  Alot of work.  But less expensive than a new door.
