I have a screened in porch that I wish I used more. I was thinking about glassing it in and was wondering what my best option would be? I would like the option to open the glass on nice days. The porch is about 100 square feet with an A-Frame shaped ceiling that is probably 20 feet high. What would the cost of something like this be? Are there options I'm not considering?

Before hiring an architect or designer for my addition, what sort of questions should I ask them? Design is extremely important to me, and I feel like I can see that in their portfolio of work. What else should I be paying attention to?

I just got leaf filter gutter guards, steel mesh, 2 months ago. Now that it's fall there are leaves piled up on top, stuck with rain, etc. What to do? I was told maintenence free. Will they fall off eventually or will the snowy winter affect them?

black spots on the roof. can you tell me what is the cause of this? have lived in this house 12 years and have had no problems. what can you do to clean this? spots are on the north side of the roof. starts up high on roof and come down about 3/4 of the way. the spots do not cover the complete roof. the only thing that has been done different this year is we added more insulation in the attic

What is the best flooring for a cold, damp basement? There is existing carpet over a concrete slab.

Our new home does not have insulation or sound proofing between floors. Can we fix this now? You can hear the TV from our den when in the master which is directly above. Would love to find a contractor that can remedy this, hopefully without pulling up the floor.

Is there anything I can do from inside my attic to battle ice dams? I'll worry about preventing them next, for now I have them and want to speed up their melt. Getting up to the gutter is not a safe option right now, so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do from the attic that won't make things worse.

Is a contractor responsible for returning things to their rightful state even if its out of the scope of their contract? I had electrical work done and they messed up the wires going to the security system. now it won't function. They said the reconnected it but now they are saying they don't mess with security systems. Do I call my security company and send the contractor the bill? I would like to add that i'm of the mindset that you do what is right not what you can get away with and most people don't follow that so I'm not sure to what extent people CAN be held accountable.

Inspection of the attic space after the new roof I noticed nailing for ridge vent split wood, is this still secure enough and should there be a bug barrier

I have a ranch-style brick house and I'd like to give it a facelift. Do you recommend painting brick or will it be a lot of maintenance/work in the long-run?

What are some common mistakes people make when building a custom home? We're early in the process, have heard plenty of horror stories, and want to do all we can to make things go as smoothly as possible.
