Feinmann is a national award-winning design/build firm, specializing in kitchen and bath remodels, room additions, and whole house renovations. From listening to our clients over the past 20 years, we have learned what matters most when it comes to making major home improvements - in short, they look for ingenious design, a well-articulated process, superb craftsmanship, responsive service, and the best value for the cost. That is why we have built a complete range of in-house services, from expert planning all the way through fabrics and furnishings, around exactly these requirements. And, even when a particular project is complete, we are committed to enhancing our relationship through on-going education, acting as a sounding board for design and remodeling issues, and helping address the hands-on maintenance needs of our clients.
Feinmann, Inc. handled a major renovation for us -- gutting and reconfiguring most of our first floor. The reconfiguration included re-imagining our dining room, kitchen, downstairs bath, laundry room, and living room, plus adding a new sunroom and deck. Our intensive experience with them, through what we feared would have to be a scary, painful, and traumatic experience, was outstanding! Feinmann was the only design firm we interviewed that understood the scope and interactions of the problems we had with the home we had lived in for 20 years. They developed a complete solution. The iterative, collaborative design process (with Barney) resulted in a conceptual design that addressed all of our many requirements, incorporating both “think-outside-the box” ideas that we would never have dreamed of, as well as our own ideas and modifications that we drew ourselves. (We highly recommend that you start the process by creating your own “needs assessment” document that describes how you currently (mis)use your rooms and what you would love to have instead.) Feinmann gently guided us through the stressful process of weighing the trade-offs about which modifications to do, and what not to do.The project manager, Tammy, masterfully managed the thousands of details of the project, including coordinating and scheduling the many subcontractors so the project kept moving without any significant delays. Many days she would have five or six different subcontractor crews working simultaneously in a beautifully orchestrated symphony. She shielded us from the day-to-day stresses, but also did a great job communicating with us about the progress of the project, conferring with us well in advance of when decisions were required. She took full responsibility, and aggressive correction action, for the few communications gaps that occurred. She also went above and beyond her nominal role by spending hours helping us narrow down various alternatives for which we would have otherwise hired a decorator (not just the selection of countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, etc., but even light fixtures, paint colors, and selection of rugs). AnD, our lead carpenter, demonstrated a dedication to excellence that we found so comforting, both in his own work and, reassuringly, in overseeing the work of the many other carpenters and subcontractors. Nothing slipshod will ever get by AnD! And he made significant, conscious efforts to insulate us from the noise, dust, and invasions of the construction (not that reconfiguring an entire first floor could ever be easy), even as one of us continued to work out of the house during the six months of active construction.Yes, our high-quality renovation project was expensive, but what a relief it was to feel so confident that all the complexities of the project were being handled so professionally and the money was being well spent. As the project got underway, we soon felt assured that no subcontractor was making horrible mistakes that we would regret far longer than we would remember the bill. Many of the warnings we received from other homeowners (e.g., of ever expanding bills, and the need to “watch them like a hawk” to keep them from cutting corners) did not apply to us. Small changes and corrections were handled seamlessly. We did have a few minor overages, and we expanded the project in a few areas, but those were other jobs that we had known that would eventually need to be done; by then, we knew that we already had a crew whom we could trust to do them well. If you have the skills of a general contractor and understand how to direct, coordinate, and inspect every inch of every subcontractor's job, and don't mind the nit-picking nightmare, you may be able to get off cheaper, but then you should be working for Feinmann. If you are like the rest of us, and you value your peace of mind and the quality of the job, and you want to sleep well each night knowing that your interests are being well looked after, choose Feinmann. We love how our home has turned out, both functionally and aesthetically, and we couldn’t be happier that we selected Feinmann for this significant, complex project. We would recommend this company for any intricate remodeling job.
Feinmann is an extremely professional organization and provided expert guidance throughout the whole renovation process. I was very pleased to be able to have one point of contact from design through construction. The whole team was friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Most importantly, we couldn't be more pleased with how our kitchen renovation turned out.
Two areas I would recognize. One, Feinmann has a strong team with individuals who deliver different areas of expertise. One delivered the big picture idea, another had the details, a third had the practical implications. Excellent. Two, Dave Witting managed the process exceptionally well. Timely updates, terrific responsiveness. He anticipated frustration and managed expecations extremely well.
Kyle was superb in addressing and resolving any problems. He is very experienced and creative, and any time anything unexpected happened, we could trust that Kyle would figure out a way to make it right. (For example - we had a vanity installed in the bathroom and there was a gap near the wall - Kyle came up with a great solution. We had a dog feeding station installed, and Kyle found a perfect material to prevent water damage). Also in the rare cases of a problem that was due to Feinmann, there was no arguing about responsibility (eg the initial kitchen sink was an unexpected size and was replaced without argument, and one piece of granite was patched and again, it was replaced without argument).
We had heard good things about the firm over the years. They are not the cheapest, but in this case you get what you pay for. We worked with a high quality team, and got a great redesigned downstairs.
End result is in line with our wishes and hopes. Outsiders who have seen the remodelled space are impressed. However, there were severe delays and costs were substantially higher than anticipated.
Kevin, the carpenter, excelled at being both highly skilled and attentive to the needs of the household while working. He was thoughtful and communicative and willing to go the extra mile to make the experience of a kitchen and bath renovation a pleasing one. Dave Wittig was an excellent project manager and responded to all questions and concerns with thoughtfulness and generosity. He kept the project moving and having his overview always guaranteed a high level of expertise from everyone involved. Tammy Russo was a delight to work with and provided aesthetic and tactical solutions and suggestions. Tom, the painter, was so careful and thorough and skilled and extended himself over and over to accommodate to the needs of the project, always lending a helpful hand and being patient in the process. The electrician, Dave, was very competent, as was the plumber and tile people. I would say it is a remarkable team of professionals.
The finished product is phenomenal. With Feinmann you are guaranteed a high level of expertise and an attention to detail and aesthetics that is unparalleled. Concerns and problems during the project were handled with sensitivity to the needs of the client and with great attention to making the process an enjoyable one. All in all, I would recommend Feinmann to all those looking for a high quality renovation.
Each of the Feinmann professionals with whom we worked went above and beyond to give us the gorgeous kitchen of which we had dreamed. Feinmann prides itself on catering to a discerning clientele and we were certainly that type. We had a lot of input to share and we felt completely heard, accommodated, and appropriately advised along the way. Even with the one or two "challenges" we encountered, Feinmann immediately and professionally addressed them to our compete satisfaction. I would be happy to work with them again in the future.
I wasn't fully prepared for the number, complexity and timing of decisions that would be necessary. Feinmann was very patient and worked with me through all of my concerns and issues.
Highly recommended and the style of their work was what we were looking for.
Feinmann is committed to satisfying their customers by completing a project that will meet or exceed their expectations. They will follow through on issues and concerns to "make things right".
Prior experience with FRI. Quality workmanship. Trustworthiness. Competence.
They did a high quality job. They were very responsive to questions and needs. They do great quality work, and they have good, clever ideas.
Thanks to everyone involved in making this a very successful project for us.
Brian, the "carpenter", was amazing both in terms of "doing it all" himself, as well as going out of his way to deal very, very quickly with whatever issues arose or requests we made. Chris, the project manager, was also professional and delivered the project without any major suprises. Kate, the kitchen designer, was also very helpful in terms of adapting to our "non-standard" requests.
Feinmann dramatically transformed our kitchen and living spaces working within very tight constraints imposed by the Lexington Conservation Commission. We are exceptionally pleased with the results.
Overall, we were very pleased with Feinmann and the project. We love our new kitchen. Feinmann essentially came in on budget and although completion was delayed a bit, it was not significant. Even though some things remained undone we had use of our kitchen by the original completion date.
We enjoyed working with the entire team. Chris Tobin, Kate Yurgelun, and Chris Gonzalez were all a pleasure to work with.
We wanted a design and build contractor. We wanted a single entity to manage the project and be accountable. We also wanted someone who did high quality work.
