Remodeling Concerns: We were concerned with the addition appearing to be a stark box on top of our garage that was an obvious addition. We voiced this to Syd and she brought several options to us to make sure we were happy with how the addition fit in with the rest of the house.

Why You Chose Us: The first reason we chose Pioneer was because of the service and honesty from Joel throughout the quoting process. We then found out that Pioneer had worked on our house previously, remodeling the kitchen and adding a fireplace, both of which we love and find to be great craftsmanship. We also posted on the Kitchener Reddit for testimonials and had several people respond in favour of Pioneer.

Remodeling Concerns: Scheduling was a concern of ours. We really liked how it was communicated to us on the portal. When the schedule was impacted by the delivery of goods, it was clearly communicated ahead of time. That was nice. We did a bathroom, and we were concerned about the quality of the tiling. We've had poor experiences in the past, so we were concerned about the finish detail on the tiling work. Their subcontractor did a fantastic job. We were concerned about transitions and thresholds with the renovations and the old spaces, but they did a good job. We didn't have any requests for changes, so we didn't have to have any uncomfortable conversations. They did great with the finishing details.
Lead Source(s): They were recommended by a colleague, and we wanted a design-build company rather than a general contractor. This is why we called Pioneer Craftsmen.
Why You Chose Us: At the time we were looking for contractors, they were responsive when a lot of others declined our project or just didn't respond, so that was important. We wanted someone who would be responsive. It's very fundamental and not always the case. They put together a really good proposal. They weren't the lowest in cost, but the information and recommendations gave us confidence that they would execute the project with fewer problems than others. Employees & Subcontractors: It's clear that the Pioneer team has developed relationships with their preferred subcontractors and works with people who maintain the team's standards. Everyone went above and beyond to respect our space and the fact that my husband and I were working from home offices throughout the reno.
Problem Resolution: The team took problems in stride and resolved or found a creative solutions without increasing project scope.
Schedule: The week before our construction began, the Pioneer team gave us a Gantt chart showing the initial plan for when each step of our very large reno would happen. We all expected that some things would end up changing, but they planned so well and worked to keep things on track. The project ended up being completed on schedule. So many people said to us, upon hearing that we were renovating, that we should be prepared for it to last twice as long and cost twice as much. Pioneer kept it on time and on budget.

Recognized Excellence: Jen really helped us focus in on the design, materials and colours that would give our home the feeling we were looking for. Mark always knew who was coming, when, and what they needed to get done — and he made sure it happened, properly. He was busy day in and day out himself getting so many things done. He came up with creative ideas for managing challenges and for incorporating old pieces into the new design.

That said, the team at Pioneer Craftsmen was really great at listening to my questions and concerns and modifying the design / providing solutions. In retrospect, I do feel like they were advocating for me in the areas where I was lacking knowledge = there are lots of little touches that I really appreciate.
Recognized Excellence: Yes, the whole team really. Paul Meier was fantastic to work with. I am quite honestly blown away by the design of the roof, and how wonderful the space functions. In addition, Paul navigated an on-again, off-again project (due to Covid) with compassion, which I really appreciate. Sydney was generous with her time, patient with my questions and great with design suggestions. I understand Lee was the master generous behind the exceptional framing, Bryan kept it all moving ahead, and most importantly Sean oversee all the details on site and was who I saw most often. People often say renovations are stressful but ours was not. Jen, the designer, was excellent at helping us make decisions and even making choices for us when we were overwhelmed. The project started on time, finished ahead of schedule and came in under budget.

We had lots of ideas and they helped us narrow down our scope to what was most important to us. Paul created a wonderful overall design and Sydney found the ideal room design by creating a bump out for the wood fireplace and helped us with material selection and design advice. It's perfect and I never would have thought of it myself.
Professional & Organized: Especially true in the current times of shortages and material delays. They were adaptive in changing the normal order of doing thing to keep the project moving.
Clean & Safe: Lee did an awesome job of making sure the site was clean and safe
Areas Of Satisfaction: The design and final final product exceeded our inital expectations. Lee's skill and management of subcontractors was exceptional. I always felt supported throughout the process.
Recognized Excellence: Lee for his skill and professionalism, Sydney for her design ideas and Paul for the overall plan and help in making it all come together
Remodeling Concerns: Concerns were around quality and minimizing disruptions. We choose Pioneer based on their reputation. Pioneer tried their best to make the process as stress free for us as possible and their level of skill and professionalism gave us confidence in the quality of the work.
Additional Comments: I'm thankful for my wonderful addition, it's made our home so much more relaxing and the backyard so much more accessible and enjoyable.

We had many sit down meetings with a team of professionals to help make decisions and finalize design.
Professional & Organized: Incredibly professional throughout the whole renovation process. Once we finalized our contract we were given a detailed description of all the plans, dates and times for deliveries, construction and installations. We had weekly meetings for the team that worked with us. We always felt like we were heard. All installations were on time and very well organized.
Employees & Subcontractors: We enjoyed all the employees and subcontractors. Each company that came into our home respected our space, engaged in conversation which made the process of renovating much easier to endure. We did our renovations during a pandemic, however all safety measures were in place. We felt very safe and comfortable with those coming and going during the Reno’s.
Communication: Communication was definitely a strong point with this company. We had numerous ways to get in touch with those working on our project. All contractors were readily available to answer questions, and/or discuss design options. If we had the need to contact our project manager he would reply quickly and efficiently.
Problem Resolution: We did not have any major problems. However if there would have been, I have faith things would have been dealt with accordingly and with satisfaction.
Schedule: Absolutely stayed on track. We did not lose any time on our renovations. Each date provided was followed through with efficiency.
Clean & Safe: Incredibly clean and safe. There were signs put up to remind those entering the house to wear masks and sanitize. Tools and supplies were always neatly and safely put away at the end of each day.
Trust: We developed a great relationship with those at Pioneercraftmen. There was no reason to not believe this company would not follow through. The communication between our team was so strong. We were consistently reassured that all Reno’s were on time and running smoothly. If there had been any concerns we feel very confident that Paul and Brian would speak with us and keep us up to date on any changes.
Quality Service And Products: Top quality Service and products. On each product implemented into our home we were given information about. We were provided with websites, pamphlets and booklets so we had the opportunity to read up and understand our newly renovated spaces.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The whole experience exceeded our expectations. We feel they went above and beyond to make our family feel comfortable during our renovations. We were still able to function in our home even though it was under construction. We had only a couple days where I was unable to cook, however we were given notice of that in advance. I loved that Pioneercraftmen introduced us to each sub contractor before coming into our home. We were given ample opportunity to communicate with all team members and we were made to feel important and understood at all times!
Recognized Excellence: We had wonderful contractors from PioneerCraftsmen. To name a few Paul, Brian, Josh, Mark and Tyler all made this experience a wonderful one. Such a great group of guys, so very respectful, we shared some good laughs at times as well. Best of luck to everyone, we may see you again some day.
Why You Chose Us: We chose PioneerCraftsmen because Paul met with us at our home and was very enthusiastic about our space. He felt we had a great home and he was confident we could make the perfect changes to update our kitchen and bathroom. Lee - smoothed a hundred small details over the months, from figuring out building problems to coordinating contractors smoothly, to bailing the owner out when she locked herself out. Can't say enough about these two!
Remodeling Concerns: We were worried about everything! We knew this was going to be a complicated project. Pioneer stick-handled a thousand details that eased our minds, and let us go about our lives while they did so. Our project was delayed over and over (not Pioneer's fault) but Paul's good work and attention made things okay, in the end.

Schedule: Even with disruptions to supply chain and unexpected issues, work schedule was switched around to accommodate and stay within work plan and deadline.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The provision of a detailed project plan and the fact that EVERYDAY work was completed on site. There was flexibility within the plan and when needed additional staff were on site to complete certain tasks.
Recognized Excellence: Nathan Presley, lead carpenter. In addition to fulfilling his role as on site project lead, he created a beautiful wooden mantle for the fireplace. I described what I was looking for and he found an old barn beam locally. He worked with the natural features of the old wood and enhanced them and made the perfect piece for the mantle, it is amazing and exactly what I was hoping for!

Employees & Subcontractors: I feel that Pioneer must take special note of this while hiring and contracting. I was also delighted to have our foreman to actually be a forewoman and was glad to see women contractors as well.
Communication: Emails and phone calls are always attended to quickly.
Problem Resolution: Unforeseen "problems" are handled quickly and effeciently by suggesting options and solutins.
Clean & Safe: Always clean and tidy plus in our case they did extra on the weekends so that we could use the laundry. It is that kind of thoughfulness that sets Pioneer apart.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The designer was not only talented but very enthusiastic. It added so much to the project. The company quickly responded to the new requirements made necessary by Covid 19.

Can't say enough about the hard work and dedication shown by Mark and his sense of humour helped as well. Actually all the trades and staff encountered were personable and knowledgeable.

She got a very good sense of what we liked, and picked out a range of flooring, tile, colours that we liked, without our explicitly telling her exactly what we wanted. It was uncanny how we brought a flooring sample with us and it was almost the exact flooring sample she picked out for us. Zack explained every process thoroughly. He emailed us several times to say that he would like to meet with us to discuss progress if we wanted. Whenever we came over to our house, Nathan stopped working and explained things to us, and answered questions. He never gave us the impression that we were imposing or that we were preventing him from getting his work done. We even tried to stop by at times that we thought he wouldn't be there, but he was there until 7 and on weekends sometimes.
Recognized Excellence: All three - Jenn, Zack, Nathan. They seem to be good at reading people's personalities and tastes, likes and dislikes. Nathan did repairs/extra work in the house that would just make things better, probably knowing that we wouldn't mind his doing something a little extra even though it wasn't part of the official renovation. Zack gave us the perfect "thank you for your business" gift card (Lee Valley!!). Jenn gave a couple of instructions to the workers during the renovation that would make a better finished product.

Areas Of Satisfaction: In no particular order:- Dedication to finishing every job to the highest possible standard.- Schedule and original quote were reasonable and adhered to.- The efforts made to make our lives easier and as mess-free as possible during the work.- Communications were prompt, clear and informative.- How our thoughts about what we wanted to achieve with the renovations were consistently remembered and taken into account during the design process.- We chose to work with you because you inspired trust that the job would be done well. For us, a lot of the stress in such a job would be in picking out which companies to go to for good quality materials, fixtures and cabinetry and who to have do the work. Having you choose or recommend those for us made the experience enjoyable rather than stressful.Quite simply, I haven't felt so well looked-after in a long time!
Recognized Excellence: Jen was great at narrowing the wide choices of tile, counter top etc. into something manageable we could discuss at home, while keeping in mind budgetary concerns and other practical issues that were important to us. This made making decisions very quick and easy.She was also very accomodating of the requirements of our two little children, who had to come along to all the selections.Mike Sullivan for going above and beyond every day he was here, for his attention to detail, and dedication to getting everything done right. He cemented the good feeling I had about the company and turned it into absolute trust that he would see us right. He was wonderful with the kids and, although he never said anything about it, I noted and appreciated that he did what he could to avoid noisy work during nap time. Communication was great. Personable and very considerate, he made what could have been a difficult time fun.
Why You Chose Us: I got a good feeling from the initial phone calls. This was only improved on by the visit to our home where, within 10 minutes, Jamie was pointing out things to me about my new house that were not noted during a 4 hour home inspection. During that visit it was clear the company was dedicated to quality work but were also friendly and accessible.I had a few other companies on my list to call but didn't.

Remodeling Concerns: Paul listened to what we wanted and then he made it happen! He was always available to go over something again or meet us somewhere again so that we all understood what was going to happen.We loved dealing with Paul.

All questions were answered quickly. We never had a concern that something wouldn't be addressed right away.Our home was treated like their own. We never had a concern about not being here or trusting they'd lock up or close the windows if rain was coming.
Remodeling Concerns: Summertime work, no air conditioning - it was handled with endless good nature and humour. I couldn't ask for better people working on my home.
Why You Chose Us: They did our initial renovation and it was a dream. So is this 2nd one.
