Areas For Improvement: They didn't. I call them on a last ditch thing. Didn't know if I needed a handyman or a contractor and I didn't know if he could access it for me. It turned out to be a large problem. I had a leaky roof and dry rot was occurring. He not only accessed it, but he had people here on time. They were very timely and got me in at the proper time.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The speed at which it took place. It took from beginning to end just three weeks. That including a new roof, roof repair, ceiling repair, painting to be done and the south side of house for water resistance. It was phenomenal in three weeks. It was just great.
Recognized Excellence: I would like to recognize Chris Fellows. He is the foreman on the job and he was critical to making it all happen. Also a shout out to Phillip, it was fun to see him after all these years.

There was a last minute change to the design, and they were flexible in accommodating the changes, albeit with some difficulty. Their subcontractors were all very good. The project management was also very good. They were flexible and accommodated our need to work directly with subcontractors to keep to budget. Overall, the scheduling was good enough. The materials all seem excellent. The onsite management was really good. Assessing the problems and the ways to solve them was satisfactory. We thought they did a reallygood job dealing with the city and getting permits and inspections done. We were happy with the way they cleaned up after themselves.
Recognized Excellence: Chris was very good in construction, project management and communication. Kevin did a good job in terms of the deck, entryway and the work on the permits. We're happy with Jim's design. We think they did a great job with all of the subs. Everyone made a serious effort to make sure our expectations were met or exceeded.

Lead Source: We've been using HDR for a number of products for at least 10 years. I don't even remember how we got their name. They've been our exclusive home remodelers. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Areas Of Satisfaction: They were working on a steep hillside tying our deck pilings to the foundation. They often just had four or five inches to work from. It was grueling, dirty work on hands and knees. They never complained. They just kept at it until they were done. It was all an outdoor thing. They worked in excessive heat. They just kept at it. I love the work ethic of HDR. They always do the job that they intend to do. Phillip, the head of HDR, keeps us informed. He's personable and works with us. From the inception of the idea on they gave us great advice, options when possible, and really come through like a champ. We've put HDR on our online recommendations list. We've recommended them on three different occasions. I give recommendations to 438 houses.
Additional Comments: They are wonderful. I'm so glad we came upon them, and I hope their business grows. We are sincerely thankful to HDR. They are fantastic!

We live in new Hampshire, and this job was being done in California, so I feel they made an extra effort to make sure to give us a good visual sense of how everything was going. They followed up on all of our questions, and every interaction with every person was very professional and courteous. I was similarly impressed with everyone working on our job in 2006. They were all very positive and professional. Everything got done on time, just the way they said it would happen; There were no surprises. They said what they were going to do, and that's exactly what they did.

They designed and built a deck that is common area for the personal use of the penthouse residents. They had to balance the desires of the owners of the unit with those of the board of directors and work within a small budget. As president of the board, I was the one who worked with them on this project. After working with them on this project, and seeing how beautiful the deck is and how professionally they met the needs of all involved, I will be using HDR on a remodeling project in my unit . That's the highest recommendation I can give. The entire team at HDR does everything it can to make sure the whole experience is as pleasant and efficient as it can possibly be and that the end product is even better than you envisioned it could be.
Lead Source: They remodeled the kitchen belonging to one of the unit owners in our building, and did a beautiful job.
Areas For Improvement: There was a small hiccup with the original bid. Everything ended up costing just a tad more, but to their credit, in order to honor the bid as much as possible, they lowered some costs, did some work at no charge, etc., and ended up bringing the job in at just a small amount over the original bid. And we agreed to the increase because we really wanted them to do the job, but this is one area where I would get more clarification in the future.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The design process was exceptionally good, brilliant actually, and working with Jaime, the foreman or head carpenter (not sure of his title), was delightful. He is such a good worker and very pleasant to have around. He maintains a very efficient and good humored and calm, quiet work environment. He really listens to one's concerns and then makes sure those concerns are addressed.
Recognized Excellence: Everyone was great. As I mentioned above, Jim Tibbs, the creative director and Robert Fukuda, the architect, were extremely easy to work with and did brilliant work, and Jaime, as described in question 11. Philip Anderson, the president of HDR, and Chris (? last name) were also on top of everything, very efficient, and good to work with. They all do everything they can to make sure the entire experience is as pleasant as it can possibly be and that the end product is even better than you envisioned it could be.

This took him well past 5 p.m.
