Gaffney has been a real pleasure to work with. We love our home and have had excellent interactions with all staff members. Particularly noteworthy are Sue Drazl and Mans Backman - they have been excellent and have made the finishing of our home, and our transition into it, both easy and a real joy. They will get a strong recommendation from us to anyone looking to buy a home in the area.

I have only communicated with Jeff, the proj manager, but he was good.

I was very pleased with the thoroughness and professionalism of the final walk-through and their responsiveness to the things we needed completed after the walk-through.

Comment Employees & Subcontractors Charlottesville, VA Jul 10, 2006

We are really pleased with Mans Backman and Laurie Fear. Both are knowledgeable, courteous, and well informed about the Gaffney homes. We had very little dealings with the subcontractors, but are still awaiting some follow-up from some on punchlist items (ie shrubs & ductwork).

Everyone at Gaffney has been very responsive, professional and helpful.

I like the quality of the home, but my frustrations and challenges have been that Gaffney Homes is doing a lot of work, so they aren't on top of the contractors and subcontractors, which makes some of the quality suffer throughout the course of the build. I had some difficulties in working with the project manager with construction regarding what we were told would be done and what he said would be done. Maybe I don't understand the process, however. I found when I called to customer service, that seemed to cut to the chase, but there seems to be a pretty complicated process involved in figuring out what's going on.

The only gripe I have is that we were not able to customize our home is much as we wanted. The options list is very limited because we purchased a townhome instead of a stand-alone house. For example, we wanted to pick out our own fixtures. Instead of giving us a budget to go to Home Depot or wherever and do that, they said, 'here is the list.' If the option wasn't on that list, it wasn't available.

Once Lonnis is reminded of things, they get done quickly, but only after we stay on top of it.

Overall, we were pleased with the Gaffney Home Building experience. There are still many items to be addressed (end of year list) but we are confident that they will be addressed to our satisfaction. The only thing that I can truly say negative concerning the quality of material is the quality of the sliding glass door is very poor. The follow up on selected items since Mark Sipple left Mosby Mtn. work site has been extreemly poor. The grading of the front yard has caused much flooding as well as pooling of mud. Other than the above, I would use Gaffney to build another home for us in the future.

Some things need to be corrected at the one year walk through. There are a few cracks in the home. Some of the landscaping is done by the developer, and some of those things are not getting done very well, like replacement of plants.

My experience with Gaffney Homes would have been excellent if not for what I considered a significant misrepresentation error by the Gaffney sales literature and personnel that we would get a tray ceiling in the master bedroom. After a few days, we reached a mutual agreement on that issue and it is resolved. I also was not pleased that the plans for the neighboring 4-6 lots changed to 8 lots. Additionally, I had to contact Parham Site Development numerous times in Nov-Dec 05, & Feb 06 to cease trespassing with heavy equipment in my backyard while they were doing site preparation on those 8 lots. Minor problems that had to be corrected included: gas exhaust vents not being connected, no switch for gas fireplace, phone lines not connected, lack of support of shower floor, etc. Nonetheless, I do feel Gaffney Homes are quality builders and would verbally recommend them to a friend.

Gaffney Homes has truly exceeded all my expectations. The quality of the materials and building is first class. All of my dealings with the staff at Gaffney Homes has been handled professionally and pleasantly from material selection to problems getting a fridge up the stairs. The one problem I had with a leaky garbage disposal was handled very quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend Gaffany Homes to anybody who asked.

For the inconvenience all residents have had to contend with during the on-going construction process, Gaffney should offer to spray wash the garage doors, the front doors, the concrete pads and the plastic fencing as well wash all of the windows upon completion of the overall project. Gaffney gets a B+ overall for quality. That is not good enough to be labeled a premier builder. Attention to details is what makes a top shelf builder. You are almost there. Quality control of the finished product would put you over the top. All it would take would be one really good finish carpenter with anal propensities and the ability to resolve minor problems like crooked wall plates and wobbling ceiling fans. Speaking of ceiling fans, surely the ones that were installed aren't the ugliest on the planet, but they are very close!

You get a C- because of trash, porta-potties in inappropriate places, and the unfinished mail shack.

The gutter contractor and the electric contractor are slobs. Both do not pay attention to detail, leave things crooked, ceiling fans wobble, door chimes are askew, faceplates are not level, etc. Also, small closets should have doors that swing out, not inward; they are small enough as it is. Inward-swinging doors make it impossible to access contents once the closet is full. Details gentlemen, details. Ask the owners before the project is underway and accept input as it is in progress.

New technologies? What new technologies? How about Solatube® tubular skylights for center hallways and windowless bathrooms so they won't be so dark? Or windows with solar film so that furniture won't be damaged by UV light?

We enjoy our new Gaffney home and would and have recommend Gaffney homes to our friends. We do not agree with the way Gaffney homes fights change orders. The GE appliances our neighbors have in their Gaffney homes are crap! Frying pans slide off of the stove top. Someone is going to get hurt! When they asked for upgrades before the homes were even started(which they were willing to pay a premium for) they were told by Laurie Fear "What do you think these are, custom homes? We will not change the appliances!" When we recommend Gaffney, we tell our friends to get all changes in writing before signing the purchase agreement or you won't get the changes. We've had two friends buy two Gaffney homes since our purchase. They requested Bosch but Laurie said "NO!". Everyday they remind me how mad they are at Gaffney because of the GE cooktops. Guildmember since 2006

As a GuildQuality Guildmember, Gaffney Homes relies on our customer surveying to help them deliver an exceptional customer experience.

We have surveyed customers on behalf of Gaffney Homes in Charlottesville, VA; Crozet, VA; Keswick, VA; and Earlysville, VA.

In this report, Gaffney Homes has published a summary of the customer feedback they've received since they joined GuildQuality in May 2006. In that time, 35 out of 69 customers (51%) responded to a GuildQuality satisfaction survey, with the most recent response in March 2007.

About GuildQuality and our Guildmembers

Homebuilders, remodelers, real estate developers and home services companies pay GuildQuality for customer surveying and performance reporting. We refer to these companies as GuildQuality Members, Guildmembers, or members.

Our service helps Guildmembers monitor customer satisfaction and -- if they choose to publish survey feedback on our public website at guildquality.com -- articulate the quality of their service for prospective customers.

All of the Guildmember information we publish at guildquality.com has been provided to us either by the member (such as pictures of work and biographical information) or by their customers via one of our surveys (customer comments, performance summaries, and reviews).

Surveys, Comments and Reviews

All of the customer feedback that we publish is derived from the customers we survey. Our Guildmembers provide us with their customers' contact information, we conduct the surveys, they receive the feedback, and -- if they have chosen to make their feedback public -- the member's performance report is automatically updated to reflect the response. Members may choose to publish a summary of either all of their feedback or their most recent twelve months of feedback.

In addition to average performance ratings and survey statistics, GuildQuality also publishes two types of customer commentary: Comments and Reviews.

A comment has been provided by a survey respondent in response to any one of the survey questions we ask, and a member may or may not choose to publish it. Often customers provide unsolicited testimonials or compliments, and members can choose to share these comments in their published performance report.

Many Guildmembers choose to participate in our formal review process. These members have added an additional question on their survey: "If you'd like to provide a public review of your experience working with the Guildmember, please share it here." In contrast to comments, which a member selects to have published, we publish all reviews, provided they are at least 30 words long. With each review, we include a one to five star rating provided by the survey respondent.
