Communication: The project tool, CoConstruct, seemed effective for both Degnan and us to be in sync. We felt like communication was very good from start to finish.
Problem Resolution: Any questions were answered with helpful, thorough, and timely answers.
Clean & Safe: Everything was clean throughout the process.
Employees & Subcontractors: We would give ten stars if we could! Everyone on the team and each subcontractor was great!
Value: Without question, the value was fair. The project was nicely planned, done well, and at or below budget. We were very pleased.
Trust: We knew we could trust Degnan from the start, and that belief grew stronger with each step. They followed through with excellence!

Areas Of Satisfaction: Timeliness--much quicker finish than we expected. Workers and staff arrived when they were expected and worked diligently to complete project earlier than we had anticipated.
Remodeling Concerns: We appreciate the times we have employed DDBR for upgrades and changes to our residence.
Additional Comments: Jon was very open to relocating some fixtures after installation. He also adjusted doors and was quick to solve an issue with one of the cabinets that needed to be repaired.

We feel that Degnan always responded to us in a timely manner, and were patient in those times when our response time was slow.
Problem Resolution: In a project with many details there are always many issues to be addressed along the way. Whether they were big issues (cabinet delivered that did not meet specs, we completely change the hood design at the last minute) or smaller issues they were met head-on without fingerpointing and with the goal to deliver an end product to our liking.
Employees & Subcontractors: All subs and employees were personable and professional.
Value: Part of the value that we appreciate is the ability to watch and clarify different aspects of the project as it progressed. We feel that we worked closely with PJ each step along the way and he was very responsive to our questions and often appreciated our input. No set of specs can completely capture what will unfold in a remodeling project, and being encouraged to watch closely, clarify and make suggestions was essential for us.
Easier Than Expected: We have used Degnan on several projects over many years. This was the biggest one yet for us. We can't give a yes or no to this question. We feel that it went as expected and appreciated the ease of communication with each member of the team.
Areas Of Satisfaction: We appreciated being able to visit the cabinet maker to see our cabinets in-progress and to see where they are made. We also were glad to be able to visit the counter-top cutter to look at remnants that fit our needs in the mud/laundry room. In addition, we had some design elements (specifically a couple of slatted walls) that were sized and implemented on-site allowing us to be precise in the placement of the wall and island. Also appreciated were the efforts made to level our floor in an area that had sagged due to construction issues from when the house was built in the 1970's. We are especially happy with the hardwood floor refinishing. The subcontractor did excellent work.

Budget: Our builder even three a few unexpected extra things unexpected like squeegee for the house, so that was good.
Construction Quality: There was a little issue with a where one of the workers made a mistake, but they rectified that. Everything else was good.
Communication: They have a really good app that works well for communication both ways.
Problem Resolution: When problems came up, they figured out the best solution and implemented it.
Punchlist: We only had two things they worked on, and we ended up having to wait a little bit. I guess those are common now. There was a flooring we needed that had to be measured on site before they could order, and it was not available right away, and it took time to implement that.
Punctuality/Timeliness: They let us know ahead of time what their schedule would be, so we weren't waiting around for them.
Areas For Improvement: I would say they did not fall short in any area of my expectations. Remodeling project have little things that can take longer than expected, but it was not a big delay. From the experience of some of my friends, this is one hundred percent better.
Areas Of Satisfaction: We needed to have a down draft fan installed in the kitchen, and they did an excellent job of installing that.
Remodeling Concerns: I can't think of any concern ahead of time because they have a good reputation, that's why we went with them, and they lived up to it.
Additional Comments: There was a situation where the store that sold us the stove that said they also do the installation, but they didn't do it in the end, so Degnun went there to get the overpayment and returned it to us.

Remodeling Concerns: Two things were of concern: one was the cost and the second was how disruptive to our lives was this remodel going to be since the kitchen is literally in the center of the house. We discussed our budget with the Degnan team before starting the project. The end cost was right on. The remodel wasn’t as bad as we thought it might be and moved along as quickly as possible. It was worth waiting for the end result!

Communication: Excellent communicators. We loved the Degnan process. Their process uses a queuing system, so we were kept well aware of where our project stood and when it would begin and length of time it would take to be completed. Jon our project manager with Degnan checked in with us each morning of work to be done each day. We knew which subcontractor(s) would be working at our house each day. Jon was only a cellphone call away if we had questions..
Problem Resolution: Whenever an issue arose, Jon and the subcontractors were able to use their excellent trades skills to professionally make the correction(s) needed. Always professionally done.
Clean & Safe: We were extremely pleased with how well our trades people cleaned up after their work. They told us they respected our home as if it was theirs.
Employees & Subcontractors: All Degnan Staff & the Subcontractors were very professional & very courteous. We felt like they were our Construction Family.
Value: We knew with having five walls taken down in our house, having a 30-foot support beam installed in our ceiling, and adding back a few bathroom walls, would be a huge project for our home. We wanted to make sure to go with a good Contractor to get the job done at a fair price. We felt Degnan was our best choice to get the job done for us & stay within our budget. We worked well with them and they worked well with us.
Trust: Yes we trusted Degnan to do our remodel and to get our project done correctly. We are thrilled with our remodel with getting our house updated to age in place.

Schedule: Our home was COMPLETELY gutted and rebuilt in 4 months. WOW! And thank you. We were so thrilled with the timeline, and so was our apartment-renting pocketbook.
Communication: The project lead and I had daily check ins (walking by every morning was a good thing, because we were able to problem-solve immediately and quickly), and when there were harder conversations, Degnan always listened and approached a concern with a fair, objective perspective.
Problem Resolution: Degnan was very responsive, even post-construction. We thought our counter had a defect, and was holding onto stains. They brought the counter rep out to check, and they came prepared with a buffet of cleaning supplies to support their visit. Turned out, we didn't have the right cleaning supplies (easy, silly fix on our part), but they were so kind and thorough.
Punchlist: I have no reason to believe that they won't be great about our 1-year warranty.
Areas Of Satisfaction: We are absolutely thrilled with our new old house, and we are glad we chose Degnan to make it happen. Degnan is a reliable, knowledgeable partner who went above and beyond to make things right. I've already referred a couple of friends, and I will keep sending people their way.
Remodeling Concerns: We chose Degnan because we didn't want designers, sub contractors and others in the process to point fingers at each other if (when) something goes differently than expected. They proactively managed everything, and we had a pretty stress-free experience. They also got us back into our home lightning fast, which was a relief for our kids and our sanity!

It is very contemporary; it looks wonderful.
Problem Resolution: When the flooring was removed it was discovered that the previous remodelers(25years ago) has installed the plumbing incorrectly and it had to be replaced. Kelly Lawton snd his crew did it quickly and the schedule only was extended by a day. Separate reasonable contract as it was not included in the remodeling contract.
Clean & Safe: Never had such considerate workers!
Value: While the total project was more than I had to originally planned to spend it was money well spent.
Easier Than Expected: Definitely!
Punctuality/Timeliness: I was kept informed at all times about the schedule and any changes.
Areas For Improvement: I had a vision of what the hexagonal tile floor would look like from photos shown me in the design process and was alarmed when the installer put the tiles in as they came from the box (telling me that was the only way they could be laid when that was not true as there were six equal sides.) your crew responded and assured me it would look fine when installed. Now I like it but perhaps someone might have consulted with me and the installer before the job was started. Only complaint I have and it in not a serious one in the overall project!
Areas Of Satisfaction: I interviewed 4 companies and chose Degnan because of their design phase and most complete contract I have ever encountered with a number of remodeling jobs over the years! Loved working with everyone on your staff and would recommend Degnan wholeheartedly! I was especially impressed with how well Kelly and Kelly snd David and the rest get along so well and respect each other.

Remodeling Concerns: We had some concerns about some of the features that we weren't sure how to handle. We did a full kitchen remodel and they were very helpful in making suggestions like with the kitchen cabinets, as well as some changes with the cabinetry in the entry way. Overall very helpful.
Additional Comments: We are very happy with the work and would consider them again if we did future remodeling. There people were all very nice and very helpful. They occasionally went out of there way to help fix something if we didn't think it was right. The gave us a lot of additional information, There online communication system was very helpful as well. I had to wait 4 more months for them to replace those with the correct color. When they used the grout in the bathroom, they also used the wrong color. There were further delays because the grout had to be removed and replaced with the correct grout.
Problem Resolution: When we did have problems, Degnan Design-Build-Remodel of Madison did resolve them.
Use Comment(s): I don't think Degnan Design-Build-Remodel of Madison will want to use my comments but they are welcome to use them.
Areas For Improvement: Degnan Design-Build-Remodel of Madison fell short of my expectations by ordering incorrect windows.
Areas Of Satisfaction: In the finished bathroom, we thought the carpenter, John, did a very good job. They customized some touches. They installed a bathroom cabinet on a rail over the sink so that it could be moved. They did a very good job on that.

Employees & Subcontractors: Everyone was very professional and polite when working directly with us. I sometimes feel like the younger workers didn't engage well, but they were also not our primary contacts.
Trust: For almost all of our issues, they were resolved and we felt listened to. We do feel like we had to come back to the contract several times to verify scope of work things. We were never worried about anyone coming into our house and felt like everyone did have our best interest at heart.
Areas Of Satisfaction: We are pleased with the overall layout of the project. We had initially planned to keep most of the kitchen appliances in the places they were originally located, but moved several things around and are very pleased with the end results. Same with the bathroom. We were initially going to move in one direction with design, but quickly changed our minds in the design process and feel like we were heard and listened to in our decision to make some changes.

Expertise: I have seen the work Degnan DBR has done on other old houses, so I knew they was right in their area of expertise.
Problem Resolution: Any clarifications or questions that came up were addressed and made me and my wife comfortable.
Areas Of Satisfaction: Finding hidden issues on our old house and addressing them.
Remodeling Concerns: Mainly addressing any of my wife's concerns and questions, as this is her first experience with an significant house project.
Additional Comments: We love our updated house. While making all the changes to the roof due to its age and 3 layers, we are extremely happy we were 'forced' into making the call and doing all of it. If we skipped even one of the additional steps, we would likely look back and regret it. (e.g. replacing the roof, adding foam, adding overhangs, removing the chimney, replacing the furnace)

Co-Construct: Very easy and effective way of communicating. Questions were quickly answered and nice to be able to go back and review those communications.

Area Of Dissatisfaction: Design: Honestly I have nothing, its been a great experience.
Areas Of Sat: Design Selections Process: The creativity in designs and the process of picking everything out. It's a large project and I have been so nervous about it all coming together and looking good. I don't really worry anymore because the selections and design process was so fantastic. I appreciated all the feedback.
Lead Source: In a group for Epic Spouses on facebook. I asked for recommendations and Degnan Design Build Remodel came up multiple times.
Professional & Organized: They were definitely professional and organized. They stuck to the schedule as well as they could even with the pandemic causing supply issues.
Expertise: Everyone was fantastic but PJ was awesome to work with. He definitely has a ton of expertise and an amazing attention to detail. He saw issues that I never would have noticed and made sure they were perfect. He always had an answer to a any question I had and was easy to work with.
Schedule: I think they did great with the schedule. There were some delays but it was not the fault of Degnan. It was the result of doing a remodel in a pandemic when everything takes longer to come in. If something was delayed or no longer available they worked hard to help us find a replacement that we would love.
Budget: No budget issues besides things that we added so that was on us.
Construction Quality: I think everything is great. I have not seen any quality issues at this point. We often just look around at how amazing it is. We sit in the theater room and look at the barn door and just are amazed that PJ made it. It's all perfect and we love it.
Communication: No issues with communication. Everyone got back to us quickly and I even had to tell PJ to not respond in the evening and when he was on vacation. It was a very dedicated team which I appreciate, just also want to make sure they have them time!
Problem Resolution: Any time a material that we picked wasn't available or was not what we thought it was they quickly helped us find a new product to replace it. When the washer flooded the laundry room they came quickly and helped us problem solve next steps. I really appreciated all of you in that moment, it was definitely a stressful moment and you guys getting back to me quickly and getting here quickly made all the difference. Thank you!
Clean & Safe: Since we were still living in the house they were really thoughtful about keeping areas cleaned up and safe. We have 2 young kids and dogs in the house and they were very careful to make sure it was as safe as possible for them.
Employees & Subcontractors: They employees were amazing, we didn't work with anyone we didn't like and they were all extremely friendly and helpful. We had no issues with any subcontractors and many of them were very easy to work with too.
Value: I believe we got everything we had hoped for the money we spent.
Trust: I trust them completely. It was such a large project and everything turned out great.
Easier Than Expected: It was just as easy, if not easier than we expected it to be. It was a great group of people to work with.
Punctuality/Timeliness: I don't remember having any issues with this.
Areas For Improvement: I honestly can't think of anything they fell short on. It was a great experience from start to finish. We threw a lot at you and completely changed everything from what we first came to you with and you all rolled with it and made this home exactly what we hoped it would be.
Areas Of Satisfaction: Honestly pretty much everything but I think the people were the best. Every single person we worked with was easy to work with. They were friendly, extremely knowledgeable and listened to what we wanted. From designing to execution of the project I felt involved and listened to if I had questions or something wasn't quite right. I felt like I built relationships with everyone and I appreciate that. It was kind of sad not seeing everyone when the project was done. Thank you all, not just the work but for making it easy and enjoyable.
Remodeling Concerns: I was nervous to take on a project of this size and spend so much money. Worried that something would go really wrong, we would find an issue with the house (sorry about the mice, that was gross) or that we would not like what it was like in the end. I don't regret doing this at all and I find myself looking around all the time and I can't believe this is ours and how much I love it all.
Additional Comments: Thank you for turning the house we bought into the home we wanted for our family. It has so many things we always hoped we could have and I still can't believe we live here. We will definitely be in touch about the millions of ideas we have for this house and property!

Construction Quality: It’s either perfect to start with or they make it that way in short order.
Communication: The app is great For facilitation and the team is quick to respond.
Problem Resolution: All projects have minor things that come up and the team addressed everything quickly.
Value: When you hire for quality you could have always found a cheaper price at lower quality. When you hire Degnan you’re hiring for quality design and workmanship, excellent communication, and a commitment to their product. They understand that the product is the overall experience, and goes beyond just the structure. When you understand this the value proposition is obvious vs other contractors.
Trust: Their business model’s foundation is trust.
Areas Of Satisfaction: Vs the industry you communicate much more effectively.
Remodeling Concerns: The main concern was being able to achieve our space/structure objectives for a given cost.

Lead Source: My husband's previous coworker had their basement remodeled. He suggested the Degnan's because they do a great job. My husband chose them because he did not want the headache of looking at other companies.
Additional Comments: We are happy.
Areas Of Satisfaction: They met or exceeded my expectations with their willingness to listen to us. They sent good workers. They did a very good job. They were thorough and they delivered a good product. I would like to recognize the lead carpenter, PJ for doing a great job. We really liked him because he is a craftsman and is very good at what he does. He listens to us and goes out of his way to make sure that the outcome is great. We had a great outcome because of him. I also want to recognize Dave, the architect-designer. He is very good to work with and I liked his design. He respected when I made changes. They were both patient and a delight to work with.
Remodeling Concerns: I am a very visible person and we had a design, but I was not sure it will turn out the way I visualized it. I was scared and apprehensive and they listened to my concerns, and encouraged me. They told me how it would be and the end product would be beautiful. I just had to trust that process and it was good. We remodeled our old fireplace and I wanted it to be a modern one and that was delivered.
Additional Comments: Degnan is a very good company because of the people that work in it. They have wonderful skilled people that work for them and we are grateful for the relationship we had. They are very professional from the lead carpenter to the designer. They are all professional, very polite and they respected us. We just had a good relationship with them, even though we had to live in the basement for a while. They are very good people, craftsmen, and artists and we are grateful for them. They did a wonderful job.

The lady who did the painting 'holy cow' what a great job and she took the time and effort to ensure everything was done perfect. Abe and Lisa have been, are and will be wonderful people for ever. The addition is just what my wife wanted.
Remodeling Concerns: Issues/Concerns at the start: Would it be done in time for the graduation party, how much of a mess would we have to clean up and would the lawn be in since we had 100's of people coming to our house. Degnan Design did a great job of communication and working to ensure we were ready for the graduation party.

Can't believe I'm saying this but picking paint was actually easy...I really dreaded it. The rooms look amazing! The entire selections process was well organized and logical. I never felt pressured or that I couldn't change my mind.

I felt badly for him when he had to deliver less than awesome news but he was always professional and I knew it would all be taken care of so I didn't worry. Michael was pleasant to work with as well. He always texted when he was on his way up. Areas Of Satisfaction: I was satisfied with how they dealt with the vendors and how they kept the job site clean. It was clean every day. They finished in 3 weeks. That was amazing.
Remodeling Concerns: We changed a U shaped kitchen into a straight one with an island. There were some surprises, but we came up with solutions that did not ruin over budget and it came out beautifully.
Additional Comments: They exceeded our expectations in almost every way. I would recommend them for any remodeling project. I have seen their other work. The planning stages included explaining all options and alternatives, including how it would affect the finished design, function and cost.Any unforeseen questions were met as opportunities for our input. Anthony, PJ and everyone were amazing!
Review: Degnan Design Builders provided two possibilities to provide the best kitchen that would fit with the rest of the house, increase the usable workspace, and improve the lighting. Removing the peninsula and changing to an island design that fits the space and feels natural is amazing!Our project was completed in ‘record’ time with minimal disruption. All project and trades-people were extremely professional, asking questions, explaining alternatives and responding to all of the little things that come up in a project this size. We can now enjoy our kitchen every day!

Not only did they fix the leak, but they studied the situation and made changes to the original design to make sure it wouldn't happen again.
Remodeling Concerns: Our concern was to repair a leak, but they went beyond that with improving the original design so the problem would not come back.
Review: We had an outdoor job that couldn't be done during the winter months. While we were waiting for the job to start, Degnan kept us up to date as to when it might start and throughout the work with emails.

Remodeling Concerns: Most of the work was "cosmetic" but the flooding that we had experienced in the basement, prior to the remodeling, was a big concern. We weren't sure that the "fix" would be effective, but heavy rains this spring, before the ground melted, provided a great test and our basement remained dry.
Review: All of the people working directly for Degnan or for the subcontractors were friendly and professional. Virtually everything turned out at least as well as we had hoped it would, and in a few instances, even better than we expected.

Clean & Safe: Everyone was great about taking off dirty / muddy shoes before entering the house. Clean up was done daily. Despite the cramped work space, tools were stored efficiently so there was walk space for us.
Employees & Subcontractors: We especially felt that Joe from Design Electric was efficient and courteous. Anthony and PJ were fabulous and very receptive to our many questions and "monitoring".
Areas For Improvement: As stated in # 3 above, there were delays (we were told related to other jobs that had complications they had to resolve first...beyond their control). We were given several new start dates over a period of about 2 + months which was frustrating. However, Abe and Anthony communicated with us and were sincerely apologetic about that.
Areas Of Satisfaction: The workmanship is beyond our expectations!!! Anthony and PJ are amazing carpenters! We also loved the design and choice of cedar wood interior.
Remodeling Concerns: We had concerns about the strength of the support (sagging beam) which would hold the roof. Abe described how this was to be reinforced.

Review: Our completed 3 season back porch is fabulous. Abe Degnan and staff did a great job designing and constructing. the workmanship is beyond our expectations. Any and ALL issues or concerns we had were answered with courteous and professional discussion.
